So Ive been hearing a lot today that the US East server is being shut down for good and everyone being moved to the west server. I was curious if this is just over reacted rumors or if this is true. I have not looked into this much at all so I was wondering if anyone has any real knowledge on the matter...
None.
I have not heard official news. But, to be honest, I wouldn't be upset if they did. The gateway system served a purpose when it was created (patch 1.08, which was before SEN even started), but there are so few people playing Brood War now that it should be reunified into the global server it once was.
Oh, here we are:

Yeah, USEast covers more than just StarCraft, obviously: Diablo 1 and 2, Warcraft II and III would also be affected by the change. It seems like a lot of work to go back and revisit all those games (what are the odds that Blizzard is still actually capable of properly patching D1 for this, anyway?). From a business perspective, I can't imagine this workload
ever getting prioritized.
Rumors are rumors. Blizzard wants to work on their new games, not make changes to their old games (also, a decline in players is a reason
not to spend time working on an old game, not the other way around). Either that, or the company is quite backwards in how it runs itself.
I did notice US Test, though I haven't paid it any proper attention.

US Test and the server downtimes are because the battle.net servers are being updated. Apparently the hardware will have similiar specifications but will be smaller form factor; we probably won't notice much difference after the upgrade.
Red classic.
"In short, their absurdities are so extreme that it is painful even to quote them."
ok i figured that they wouldnt just remove the US East server. Its surprising to me that they are actually showing any effort in updating the old bnet though lol
None.
Ah, good news, then. I was wondering what was up with that.
ok it looks like they finished updating the east server. though i have an issue. i believe the server ip address has changed. either that or they are no longer allowing proxies to connect to east??? if you know anything about this please let me know. also. a funny thing to add... it looks like ALL clan channels have been disbanded haha
None.
I was able to connect with
these proxies long enough to remake one of my clans with MirageBot.
The USEast IP appears to be 206.17.175.128 now, at least that's the address MB fetches and writes in the PvPGN box when you select USEast.
Used these two proxies:
116.236.230.56:1080
24.186.224.180:1783
Have ~3 keys still unused if anyone needs help remaking a clan

Shame... I think it would be a really good idea to combine the gateways.
With internet at today's state, the difference in performance between gateways is negligible.
