Yea that computer seems to have been designed with the steam box in mind. Might be up gradable to the steam box software apparently.

Interesting....

If anything, I'd think that the market is swaying towards digitalization, which already puts Valve and Steam at the forefront.

Adding fuel to that fire is a rumor that the Alienware X51 may have been designed with an early spec of the system in mind, and will be retroactively upgradable to the software.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Nintendo is keeping their market because of how well they have been established as a household name, Sony was only big while they had the best exclusive titles which are getting rare these days and PC has been constantly growing.

To be honest with how Valve is basically aiming to create a computer that anyone can go out, buy a part for and easily replace old ones. This may not sound that great to us, since we have been around computers long enough to learn all of this, but think of the people who just think a PC is something you buy in one big piece. Throw it out once it gets shitty and get another, that is pretty much what people who are not technologically savvy do: To them, this sounds enticing.

Anyways, if Valve does see this through, it will either become the new powerhouse of gaming, or end up like the Sega Dreamcast.

I thought the dreamcast dies because no one wanted to dev for it since it had no DRM what so ever and if you wanted to pirated a game all you had to do was burn it onto a regular DVD and pop it in and that's it. Dreamcast was the hero we needed. ;A;

But now Valve might be thinking about it again, since the rumour spread so far and so many people seemed receptive of it.

The problem is whether anyone could ever hope to make the console hardware cheap enough to compete with xbox/PS, and I think the answer to that is no. They initially sell the consoles with a huge loss, and eventually may start to make a small profit on them; meanwhile they make up the revenue from strictly controlling the platform: game developers must buy expensive 'developer kits' as well as pay license fees to get the game released in the first place and I'd expect Microsoft/Sony would get a cut of all sales as well. All of this lets them produce hardware at a very cheap price, and a generic PC simply wouldn't have the business model to allow them to compete in this way.
