Back* from the grave

Alright, let's get more minerals flowing on this here SEN. Modeling DTBK's http://www.staredit.net/topic/7737/, I'm going to throw Minerals into the mix. And make the rules a little different to make it easier ;o

The SEN Stock Simulation Game

RULES

Welcome to the SEN Stock Simulation Game. The object of the game is simple: to get rich. Complete stock market trades, borrow from the bank, and make daring deals with your opponents. You can play as an individual or a team, but your score is determined from your profit per person. The rules below explain the details as well as some technicalities. I will serve as a banker, as well as resolve any disputes that may arise. The game will finish at least a month from its initiation. The individual or team with the most profit will be declared the winner.

For regulation reasons, only members with accounts created on or before this post was made may play. You may join at any time between now and the end of the game. Also, I forgot to mention, for protection of teams that do not want their members publicly known, I would like everyone to sign up with a "company name" such as "poison_us Enterprises" or whatever.

THE PLAY

To sign up, post in the thread or PM me. You may form a team or play by yourself; either way, each person begins with $100,000 and no debt. That means a team of three people starts with $300,000 and so on. Teams are COMMUNAL, which means that any sale, purchase, or investment made by any team member is a binding contract for the whole team regardless of the objections of anyone else on the team. If there are problems with getting along within a team, you can petition me to split and I will handle it on a case-by-case basis.

Furthermore, teams may be formed after the game starts, but only by both the current team PMing me and the player PMing me saying that they would like a merger. There will be no public announcement of any mergers by me, but if you feel like sharing the information with others, you may. A "fee", for balance issues, is exacted upon the new team, lowering their per-player net worth to account for the new player. This is done by taking the net worth of the player entering a team, adding it to the net worth of the team, and dividing by the new number of players in a team. For example, if one player joins a team of 3, they will have the sum of both the player and the team's net worth divided by four.

Play can only occur during trading days (Monday through Friday, American holidays excluded). At the end of each trading day, I will update various statstics, including a ranking of net worth, popular stocks traded in the past week, a running journal of pertinent corporate decisions, etc. Individual trades and actions by teams will be kept private.

If any player or team is required to pay cash to another team, and is unable to liquidate stock or savings assets to pay them (bankrupt), they are required to borrow from the bank on a variable rate loan to meet their creditors' demands. This is the only case where you can exceed your borrowing limit (see Banking below).

At no point are your current stocks revealed, only the daily sum of your stocks, plus relevant information. You may publicly tell people what stocks you have, which ones you would like, etc, but I will never reveal the name or number of stocks you own.

TRADING IN STOCKS

You may buy and sell any stock that is listed and trading on the floor of either the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or the Nasdaq. Stocks listed only on foreign exhcanges and pink sheet stocks may not be traded. If a stock is de-listed at any time during the game, anyone holding that stock will be required to liquidate their assets at the last closing price on the market floor. In trading stock, you only have to worry about the profit from the market. No penalties are made for selling stocks at any time.

To place an order, either post in the thread or send me a PM (the privacy of your investments is up to you) with the stock name and symbol you wish to trade in, the number of shares, and whether you wish to buy or sell the stock. Furthermore, you must select one of two order types below.

Day Orders will be completed at a good price for the coming day. Technically, you will get the stock at the better 25% mark between the day's high and low. That is, if a stock trades between $50 and $60 in a day, buying on a day order will net you the stock for $52.50, and selling on a day order will get you $57.50.

Limit Orders can be carried over multiple days. Include a target price with your order, and the next time the stock reaches that price, the order will be completed. To cancel a limit order, send another message. Stock market hours are from 9:30am to 4pm Eastern Daylight Time. Some good sites to check stock prices are finance.yahoo.com and money.cnn.com.

UPDATE: Stocks may be ordered to buy or sell with minimum and maximum values at which to buy/sell, as well as ranges within which you want to buy/sell them at. Any ranges are considered inclusive, unless otherwise stated (25.00-25.02 includes both 25.00, 25.01 and 25.02). Any condition other than minimum, maximum, and range values will not be considered, and you will be notified as having stated an unacceptable condition (ex: sell stock ABC if it ends the day at X value).

DEALING WITH THE BANK

I will also be acting as a banker to allow you another avenue of investment. You may store money in the bank or take out a loan. The rates for bank savings and loan will be posted and will change daily, and the most recent closing price will be used. IMPORTANT: You may only borrow from the bank an amount less than or equal to your net worth. The following options are available at the bank (all rates are compounded daily):

Fixed-rate loans allow a locked loan rate for a sum of money. The rate may be higher than that of a variable-rate loan, but it can't change during the duration of the loan. The rate is equal to 1/10th the average of the past two closing days for silver prices (USD/oz, NY close).

Variable-rate loans allow a loan at a cheaper rate, but the rate may change, causing you to owe more or less interest. The rate will not change more than 2 percentage points per day, but will attempt to stay as true as possible to 1/500th the platinum price (USD/oz, NY close).

Both loans can be repaid whenever you want.

Basic savings accounts can be worked like normal bank accounts. You collect interest according to a variable savings rate. The rate is 1/100th the gold price (USD/g, NY COMEX)

Certificate of Deposit (CD) accounts accrue more interest, but require a minimum deposit of $1,000 and cannot be added to or withdrawn from until they mature in 2 weeks (and you must withdraw all). Once you start a CD account, the interest is fixed at 1/2000th the gold price (USD/oz, NY COMEX).

My bank hours are 9am to 5pm Pacific Daylight Time, Monday through Friday. Transactions made while the bank is closed will be effective at 9am the next banking day. For an online interest calculator, look here.

DEALS WITH OTHER TEAMS

In an attempt to pull tricks or gain an advantage, you may cut deals with other teams. For these deals to be binding, a contract must be drawn up, seen by me, and agreed to by both parties. I will approve the terms of the contract to avoid ridiculous terms, but most things within reason are allowable.

MINERALS

As an incentive to play, as well as an incentive to play well, any player that ends the game positive will receive 20 minerals, plus 1 mineral per $1,000 profit, rounded to the nearest mineral. Additionally, mineral prizes will be awarded based on certain achievements. At most two achievements may be won by a single player/team. For minerals to be awarded, there must be at least two players/teams competing. Achievements for a team will be split among the individual players evenly. Players eligible for achievements that are based off of requirements that can be met before the game ends will not be notified prior to the end of the game.

  • Largest Net Income (absolute): Awarded to the player/team that earns the most money (or loses the least) during the entire course of the game. 20 mineral prize to one player/team.

  • Largest Net Income (per day): Awarded to the player/team that earns the most money (or loses the least) per day in the game. Found by dividing the net profit or loss by the number of days in the game. 20 mineral prize to one player/team.

  • Slow And Steady: Awarded to the player/team that holds more than 50% of the number of all shares at any point for the longest amount of time, and earns a profit. If their share merges, the award is still viable. 25 mineral prize to one player/team.

  • Legal Thief: Awarded to any player/team that makes a deal and earns at least 10% of the stocks/money traded to them, or the other party loses 20% or more of the worth of what they received. 20 mineral award to any eligible player/team.
    • This means that if I sell stock A to Riney for $10,000, and it makes a $4,000 profit before I liquidate it, I could get the award. Similarly, if I instead lose $4,000 before I liquidate it, he would be eligible for the award.

  • Other prizes may be added before the conclusion of the game

Journal
December 13th
spacertextSilver's price rose about a quarter per ounce, Platinum fell a few cents, and gold is down 31% (16 cents per gram, $5.10 per ounce). No notable trades occurred. One new stockbroker appeared, in a solo company of the name "Jack".

December 14th
spacertextToday was a boom for activity in the stock market and banking industry, but brokers saw a loss in the majority of their portfolios. One broker called in sick today, but the rest at least visited the bank. Silver prices fell pretty sharply; -$2.33 per ounce. Platinum likewise fell, for a drop of $14.00 per ounce. Gold prices fell by $2.45 per gram, or 76.20 per ounce.

December 15th
spacertextToday the "Leaderboard" algorithms failed to update correctly (meaning I forgot). Little occurred in the way of trading. All of the precious metals continued to decline in price, albeit at a somewhat slower pace.

That always works out.

I thought this was gonna be a troll topic making light of preidency one. Now I find it's actually not. It's just a topic designed to troll those that play.

Nah just prankin bro.

I'm not in, but I'll thunk about it.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnn I'm in :hurr:
3 questions tho:
1) Will teams be publicly announced?
2) I'm guessing players can still join once the game start, right? Cuz otherwise everyone would have the same number of days played and the 2 Largest Net Income would go to the same player/team :|
3) When will the game end? When everyone but 1 team/player leaves the game or goes bankrupt, after a certain time has passed, when the US goes completely socialist, or ???

1) Yes. The second post has a rundown of all of the participating teams, though announcements of who is on what team is left up to the individual team's participants. Next to each "team" name will be a number within parenthesis indicating how many are on the team, but other than that I won't tell anyone what players are on what team. It's up to each team to get a public figurehead/representative/whatever and then communicate with potential trading partners.
2) "You may join at any time between now and the end of the game."
3) I stated at least one month from when it starts. It basically will end when people start to lose interest, so more or less a month to a month and a half from the start is when I expect the game to end. Note that since you're not playing Monopoly or anything, the scenario in which all teams but one go bankrupt is probably not gonna happen.

Also, I forgot to mention, for protection of teams that do not want their members publicly known, I would like everyone to sign up with a "company name" such as "poison_us Enterprises" or whatever.

Robin Hood tax? Oh, more of your socialist/communist BS. Besides, I live in America, not the UK.

It starts hopefully sometime after we get more than 4 people signed up :P Aiming for some time this weekend/next week, but there's no real set date. I'll give a 2-3 days of warning beforehand, though, so it won't be all like OHAI I'M STARTING LOL U MISSED IT.

"You may buy and sell any stock that is listed and trading on the floor of either the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or the Nasdaq". Long story short, no, as stocks are essentially money invested into a business by stockholders. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock
for clarification on what a stock is.

Alright, since there hasn't been much activity and Aristocrat's Mafia is more or less dead, signups will close on Monday, September December :hurr: 12th at 11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time. For clarification, that means the first actual stock market day will begin on the 13th.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT

CD INTEREST RATE IS BELOW NORMAL INFLATION RATE

You are losing money in doing that!

Wait. Do we have play pretend rates that are different from IRL?

Nope. We're playing real rates. The only differences are 1) loan and savings interest are based on real commodity prices instead of using banks' rates, and 2) We could buy 764977593673957 of a stock and it will still not go apeshit crazy :wtfawesome:
