I have a laptop with a Blue-ray drive and a burner. When I insert the Blue-ray, it is not detected. Is there something that I am missing to make it work?
Note: I have not changed anything with this Windows 7 installation. When I bought the laptop, it was already configured for me.
Edit: I have Windows 7 64 bits

Make sure to insert the disc right-side up.
None.

I have found this:
http://en.kioskea.net/faq/9561-windows-7-reading-of-blu-ray (Can't manage to change the region though.) (There is also the DVDFab region reset that is free and that claims to provide unlimited region change.)
I think the reason why I can't read the Blue-Ray is because I am in France and the computer was bought in Canada. Even there though, wouldn't the Blue-Ray be at least listed in "My computer"?
Maybe it's a defective part? I've dealt with many cd/dvd (or in your case, blu ray) players that are pieces of shit. It wouldn't surprise me if it was broken somehow. But since it's bluray, it's probably better well constructed than just normal dvd burners, so that's probably not the case. >_>

I can read any other disks perfectly fine. (DVD, CD)
If it claims it can play Bluray discs but it only plays normal CDs/DVDs, then that does seem defective. Maybe the laser is just having issues reading it? Have you called the manufacturer or some other customer support line?

I guess it is defective then...
I didn't call any customer support yet. Who would that be? The place I bought it?
Call whoever made the laptop. Like if it's HP brand, call HP support.
By the way, if it's HP brand, good luck with calling them. I heard their customer support is terrible.
Yeah, if you bought the laptop at a large retail store, you can probably talk to them about it and see if they can replace it or at least clarify why it isn't working. Otherwise you can talk to the manufacturer.
