An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death
Night 3"Hey, what are you doing out there?"
The man paused on the sidewalk. The voice had come from a building he was passing. "Oh, don't you have a keen eye," he replied to the homeowner, who was leaning out of the window of his house.
"Yeah, I tend to see a lot of what goes on around these parts," the homeowner replied. "But it was your footsteps that gave you away; aside from the rustling leaves, there's no other sound tonight."
"Interesting," the man replied.
"Where are you headed?"
"Oh, somewhere important. Not to brag or anything, but
I am kind of important; people depend on me."
"Funny, 'cause I haven't seen you around."
"Well, maybe you aren't as perceptive as I initially thought," the man offhandedly said. He continued his pace and paid no more attention to the homeowner.
Oh, well this is interesting; what a busy night. The man saw another person wandering nonchalantly down the road towards him.
Who does this guy think he is?The person was walking with almost a complete lack of concern. He kicked a rock off the sidewalk, watching it hop down the road. He glanced up to see the man approaching him. "Oh. Hello."
"Do you have any idea what time it is?" The man asked.
"Not really. It's pretty dark, but that's all I know." The person replied.
"You've got to be some kind of crazy to walk around with the town in its current state. It's unsafe to walk these streets."
The person shrugged. "Perhaps. Hey, why are
you out here, then?"
The man smiled. "I'll be fine. I've been through scenarios you can't even imagine, and I've always emerged victorious."
"Hah, how intriguing. Care to cite an example, or are you just full of hot air?"
"Well, let me think," the man replied. "I recall having been served sashimi at some truck stop a while back. Apparently the fish they were using required some special training to prepare. Well, when the plate finally-"
"Wait, your extreme story is about a truck stop meal? Come on," the person jested.
"Heh, I suppose the setup doesn't make it seem so incredible, does it?" the man said in return. "However, I guarantee that the folks I met back there are eternally thankful to me."
"Well, don't you sound confident." The person looked up at the sky. "Unsafe to walk the streets, huh? It's hard to believe what has become of this place, isn't it?"
Oh, not too hard. "Have a nice evening."
