I like Turtle for the nostalgia points. It reminds me of when v5 was new and hip and had those groovy post backgrounds. :P

Dev, I assume you're looking to change the default until Cecil finally starts work on a new backend (which'll hopefully have a more flexible and usable skin system)?

Anything other than Turtle.

Turtle is a horrible, ugly, slow skin that should not be the default for new visitors to this site. Actually that's probably what contributes to this site having such a low google speed index result (53/100).
'Cause it's definitely not the slow servers and database, amirite?

I use Epic. It is faster than Turtle to load and navitgate. Turtle is also ugly. But the point is, everything (slow database/servers) being equal, Epic is faster to load then Turtle. I guess Turtle is an appropriate name for it.

Actually that would be an interesting test - simply change the default theme that the site uses and check the google speed stats. Any theme which has a higher speed score should be preferred over a slower one. Maybe they'll all come out the same, but at least we'd have another useful data point to make the decision on.

Also I should emphasize that we should have a run-off. At the moment more people have voted against turtle than have voted for it. Even if turtle pulled ahead to have 12 votes and maplantis had 11, more people still voted against turtle than for it.

Is there anyway someone could make a new skin that's exactly like turtle, but faster?

None.

Just so everyone knows and the attention is brought to it, I edited my post on page 1.

I know I voted for maplantis, but I don't think it should be the default. It's just too.. unoriginal (obviously) to be the default. I think that right now, our best bet is to go with carbonite. I don't like its current style, but it looks more modern than any of other skins.

Btw, I think the picture below should be the bookmark icon for carbonite instead of the original globe. It makes more sense. ;o

Your beliefs amuse me.

I use Epic, but I don't really feel at liberty to say one skin or another should be the site's default. I like Nude's reasoning that the default skin should be whatever will most appease new members and visitors of the site.

Hence why I say maplantis. It blends well and feels good to the eyes.

Epic looks too outdated. Turtle obviously isn't very good either. There were a lot of things that I couldn't change under SEN v5/6/whatever-we-are-right-now.

Hm, maybe when -- eh, if -- Cecil gets us a better backend, we'll be able to get some skins that blow all of the existing ones out of the water. But for now I'd go with either Epic or Turtle as a default. SEN's green. Always has been.

I know I'm a terrible person but the green of Turtle just has such an allure to me. I associate the green too much SEN and it fills me happy.

Epic looks too retro for a sc2 site.

Maplantis has nice visuals apart from the grey, so it'd be a good second. If you guys could smooth out the color comparison and some of the edges (such as selecting between sc1 and sc2 forums) it'd be a definite first. Seriously the skin looks like it was designed only looking at the forum index. It has a sort of flow in the forum index that just seems nice.

And then I lost interest... (Gonna edit in my review for the others and then vote ;D)

Wow carbonite is kinda annoying being all skinny. Like a lot annoying. The blue stands out against the grey quite nicely and the icons in the forum indexed are a nice sc1 bit, even if they are all randomly selected and a bunch are repeated. Actually the more I look at it the more it wears on me.

Augus is effing ugly nuff said.
I agree with all of this. I use turtle because I don't care about speed that much... I like it but I hate it. It reminds me of SEN and other things.

I voted Carbonite cuz it looks professional-ish or something.

Voted maplantis because it was a "mostly first" as opposed to a "definite first", should have clarified that but yeah...

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

Maplantis skin lags on forum index while scrolling with Opera... :S

I'm not a big fan of any of the skins, but I really, really dislike Carbonite. I don't think the color palette fits SEN, and such a narrow fixed-width layout is just depressing in an age where the aspect ratio of monitors is getting wider and wider.

That's exactly why I like it. Wider and wider stretched layouts are unappealing to me at all.

I like the color of carbonite (makes it look like sci-fi [pretty generic, but w/e]), but it is really just too narrow. There's no point having that much wasted space on the side. If I wanted bad resolution like that, I'd go back on my 14" square monitor. :<_<:
