A bit late, but I figured it should be made anyway...

So yeah I'm sure you're all aware of what's going on, the rapture is supposed to tear earthquakes across the earth, starting in New Zealand and being in the US by 6:00 pm.

Personally I think it's a bunch of funny garbage, you opinions?

Familyradio.com appears to be down (they were the large group that believed it), and I really wish I had a clue as to why. Anyone know?

I'm sure that this is going to be taken down, because my post has no new information.

EVERY DAY SOMEONE HAS BEEN COMING UP WITH A DOOMSDAY THEORY. For thousands of years. This isn't anything new, and there really isn't anything to see here.

My opinion? They're either swamped with traffic that the server couldn't handle, or else they're doing it as a gimmick.

Famous last words, Devlin, Famous Last Words.

Edit: Was hoping to get this post in before he locked it :( turns out he didn't lock it and now I look like some mad-hatter who believes the World is going to end.

Rapture? Family Radio?

Germany was already annihilated :3

Some priest / talk-show host (always a good sign of a bastard looking for attention, two professions? get real son) - basically he claims the world will end at 8pm on saturday. Apparently Australia is already being torn apart by earthquakes and Japan has sunk into the sea.

I find it ironic how the radio company he works for had filed papers so that they could run donations over Summer 2011.. Planning a head? At a time like this? honestly.

I only heard about it last night.

Lord of the Locker Room

I actually hadn't heard of this until last night, because I just glaze over all of these silly doomsday things. Just more trolling material I suppose.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

There was a billboard near where I live (and I live in Australia), turns out these billboards are all across the world. No idea where people get the money for this shit. I told my room-mate who subsequently spoke to Seven news who ended up doing a piece about it.

Yes, this is just another false prediction as Devlin says, , these things happen allll the time.

The particular link is the podcast specifically about the May 21st event.)

Studies actually show that people actually have stronger beliefs when they are proven wrong in these cases, its the mentality - I've invested so much now, can't turn back! (Cognitive Dissonance) The Seventh Day Adventist religion was actually born out of the great disappointment, amusingly/sadly enough. I wonder what religion will pop up after today's great disappointment?

If the world IS going to end, it will be scientists that tell you first, not some religious nuts. Because science is about reality, and religion is about fantasy.

There have been atleast 50 major "Apocalypse" theories over the year and maybe hundred of less popular ones. Many people say the world is going to end, i only believe in actual ones such as a meteorite. anything that is based on something as non factual like this doesn't make sense.

For those who don't know this goes like this, in the bible it says the world will end in 7 days (noahs ark). And that happened in around 4990 bce and it also says 1000 years = 1 day so 4990 bce + 7000 years = 5/21/2011 except year 0 does count so yeah. Don't count anything on coming.

Also:

Mark 13:22 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 (NIV) for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

2 Peter 3:10 (NIV) But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

Revelation 16:15 (NIV) "Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.

Which, whether or not you accept the Bible as factual, his premise is based on info from the Bible...and the Bible says this. So ya. Nope.

>be faceless void >mfw I have no face

Well, I'm in NZ, and I can tell you now it's freezing cold, so it isn't heaven. So the rapture is off I guess ;0

More seriously, the people who are into this kind of stuff are pre-millenials. Basically they believe that certain prophecies in the Bible have yet to be fulfilled and refer to Jesus' second coming, amd through that they think they can predict the end of the world. Conveniently they ignore large parts of the Bible to do this; kame pointed out some of the major flaws in the whole prediction thing.

Honestly, even if you did know when the world would end, why would you blab it out to everyone? If you're wrong you make a mockery of yourself and potentially your religion, and if you're right, I highly doubt telling everyone will make a difference.

Yes but as it is with anyone who is foolish enough to quote Bible passages one can always quote other passages that say other things. This is because the Bible is not a coherent book written by a God but a series of books written by men and stitched together. Thus, contradictions abound.

I like quoting Matthew 24...

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Basically all of Matthew 24 is the same, a bunch of things to 'check off' to know when the end times are en route. No doubt I could scrounge up other passages that conflict with yours Kame but I shall not bother, I hope the point has been made.
