Introduction: Well this is a map I started a long time ago, did the intro, and then never touched. However I really do want to finish it and so after hearing about the 2011 RPG contest it gave me some motivation to finish it. and plus I need something to distract me from my crazy life :P

Story: I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is based off the short story of the same name by Harlan Ellison. Its the story of a super computer named A.M. (As in I think therefore I am) who was built during a great war to moniter all other computers and nuclear weapons, However the computer became Sentient, saw humans as flawed, and vaporized the entire world ending the human race. AM is infuriated at the humans for building him giving him such knowledge but having nowhere to go AM is a prisoner in his own mind with nothing to do with his great power. Before he destroyed the human race he saved 5 humans from extinction and tortures them in his core for 109 years as his way of getting revenge against mankind. Now after being tortured for 109 years he has devised a special game for each of the survivors for them to play in hopes of breaking their will once and for all so he can get his ultimate revenge. You play as the 5 characters trying to survive his maddening game.

Characters: A.M. - The villain of the game who is forcing the last humans to confront their inner demons in his twisted game.

Gorrister: One of the Humans that A.M saved. In Gorrister's level he is sent to a mental asylum created by AM
where he must confront a dark truth about his past, one he may not be ready to face.

Nimdok: One of the Humans A.M. Saved. Nimdok is the oldest of the survivors and participated in the Holocaust. In his level A.M. makes him relive the horrible things he did.

Tim: One of the Humans A.M. saved. Tim is the only human that A.M. hasn't physically mutated or made deformed in some way. This causes the other humans to hate him.
Tim doesn't feel like he belongs with the other humans as he doesn't feel like he's done anything wrong. A.M.'s game will show him wrong

Benny: One of the Humans that A.M. saved. Benny was a good looking homosexual man before the world ended. A.M.'s twisted him into a hideous monstrous form of an ape-like
creature. Has a strong dislike for Tim.

Ellen: The only female human A.M. saved. Ellen is a beautiful young girl who was mutated by A.M. but still retains some of her former beauty. A.M. Frequently lets the male
survivors use her as a plaything for his amusement.


Gameplay: This will be a single player RPG. It will be story-driven and primarily puzzle based with some action as well. As you play through the game you will learn why AM chose these humans and what happened to them before the world ended. Each character will have their own unique level and play slightly different. Some characters will have to fight enemies while others dont do any fighting at all. Each general objective is the navigate through the level and as your character is pushed to their phycological limits. You will be able to complete any level in any order you choose to add some variety.

Other Stuff: I am not trying to create anything super amazing in terms of mapping technique. So don't expect any EUDs or fancy crap like that. The story and atmosphere will be what sets this map apart. This map will be intended for mature audiences only. The story deals with very disturbing and explicit themes so the 12 year olds on battle.net probably shouldn't play it :P
Also since this is a single player RPG there will be a fair amount of music in the map to enhance the mood. I'll probably write some original music depending on how big I can make the map without it crashing. I may make a multiplayer version at some point but I feel like this is meant to be a single player experience.

Oh hey that's one of my favorite stories, should make for an interesting map adaptation.
Only thing I would suggest is paying a bit more attention to the terraining because some of the rectangular-mode parts look rougher than they have to be (mostly the repetition), good luck with the map.

It sure is, my contest map is also on Installation so I know blends don't come easily, but I stand by what I said.
It's really just the 'corpse' picture, one square of isometric 'substructure' and you could normally place the corpse doodad inside it and have it look ok, the rectangular crane tiles that are there now create sort of a prison-wall effect but it's very messy.
What do I know, this probably isn't that important given the puzzle nature of the map, but good visuals always help.

Well this is very early in the map so I will probably go back and touch things up as I go along. But I'm really not super picky about terrain I don't feel it really needs to look super amazingly perfect. it's definitely not the most important thing in the map. But thanks for the feedback I'll try to touch things up at least a little bit.
