Would anyone be willing to code a website supposed to help the SC2-Gamers Community? I and another dude are currently designing the page, but none of us actually know how to code a website, so we'll require the help of someone else...
I do not feel like explaining the insights and features of the website. I will do so privately if anyone show interest into this project.

PM me for more informations if you're interested. ^^

I lack the motivation to code a full website, but I can provide assistance/critiques of any code that someone else writes, or any code that exists right now.

Check out the awesome-ass code for Turtle's header if you need my resume. >:3

Another SC2 site...? Why not just use some forum code to do it? How complex is it supposed to be?

Devlin pretty much sums it up.

Get PhpBB or SMF or something similar, make a skin, profit. And no good programmer is going to do an entire website for you.

I find it somehow hilarious that you expressed interest in programming video games yet unwillingness in coding a webpage. :awesome:

He PMed me explaining what he has in mind. It requires someone to program the entire thing for him, as it isn't forum-based or anything like that. So you're absolutely right in that last bit.

If you want a website that can be free and contain more than just forums, look for CMS's. It's basically a pre-built website you can configure. Last I checked, the most impressive ones were e107 and Joomla.

You can get a programmer to make you a website two ways: By paying him, or by attracting him to your website and making him love it. And until it exists, it won't be loved, so you need money.

If payne picks Sharepoint or anything based on ASP, my rage will plague his dreams for as long as I live, and when I stop breathing, my wrathful ghost will haunt him forever.

And why another SC2-Gamers community? You do realise you'd be competing with Liquid, SC2Mapster, SEN, Hiveworkshop, Unconfessional Design, SC2Armory, and a countless mind-fuck-worth of wiki's, forum's, and fan-sites. Not to mention battle.net...

Anyways, good luck to you :P

The point is that, for example, having it being an external (read: independent) resource makes it more appealing. I'm pretty sure it helped GalaxyWiki to have its own URL instead of being tagged as SEN's Wiki.
Also, Kame, I currently do not have enough time to learn those languages and code my own website. It'd be great to have this up as soon as possible, so learning by myself might (might!) not be the best way.

$50 is pretty standard....

Unless I'm missing something, that translates to $400 a day for a run-of-the-mill web programmer. Or $8000 a month. Or $96,000 a year.

It seems a bit much.

Well, no. A run-of-the-mill web programmer can create a fully functioning and good-looking website in about an hour or two - depending on the demands of the client. Of course no company is going to pay anyone in their IT department 50 bucks a day for fiddling around with php and server shit. So, it is about accurate.

Bullshit. The only way you're making a functional website of any complexity at all in an hour or two is if you're using a CMS or something along those lines. I don't see it happening otherwise even if you heavily reuse code for every project.

Payne here is asking for something with a forum, presumably a portal, and likely other features, like a DLDB, news feed, etc. Additionally, I'm fairly certain that web programmers are paid a set amount for a complete website, not on a per hour basis.

He's actually not trying to make all that. He's trying to make a more efficient http://www.staredit.net/sc2mapnight/ with more features.

So, basically a chatroom/shoutbox? Stored usernames + passwords? Timestamps and user-info? Probably wouldn't take more than 2 to 3 hours to make.
