I was wondering what most of you think about this strategy? I recently saw one potentially good use of this strategy.
It was in green valleys. He immediately SCV rushed and lifted his CC to one of the higher bases. This gave him protection for awhile. Was this good? Would you recommend using it? |

I recommend you learn how to play before you try and cheese like that.
However most maps don't present that opportunity. So if you want to take advantage of it, you could try at the expense of your economy. |

I was just surprised that it worked out well for him. I kind of assumed it was an all around bad strategy.

Again, I wholeheartedly agree that it is a bad strategy. Early economy is pretty important. The only advantage you get is a briefly confused opponent.

Or your opponent might leave because of the sheer unworthyness of the game.
If you're playing with T, read: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=49681 Once you master all that- you might play around with other people. |

scv rush probably won't work on skilled players with a high micro capacity. and if its against another terran, they'd just be able to beat you through sheer numbers.

Howabout a team rush? In a 3v3 two players SCV rush and lift to a safer spot, thereby taking out one player.
The game would then be 1 well along player with two poorly performing allies against two well along players. If the two disabled players managed to live and the third player held out, they could potentially strike back later on. |

I guess it could work...
But SCV Rush was never a real strategy. The funniest thing I've ever seen would be a probe rush, where this guy builds nothing but 3 things: Nexus, Pylons and Probes. Yet, he still owns his opponent... |

If you have good enough micro it can be pulled off perfectly. I'd say there must be a few requirements before you think about going for it though.
1. If you're lucky enough to scout in the right direction. 2. If your opponent is going for either a fast expand or a fast tech. Id say if you want your scv rush to work, you should go for a quick 2 racks build and push with some marines as well as scvs. Make a bunker next to his main or expansion and guard the crap out of it while it being built. Once you get some rines in the bunk keep repairing it with your scvs. Also maybe keeping 2 or so scvs back to mine would be good just in case it fails you might still stand a chance in hell. This is my view on the scv rush after watching countless games where this strat has gone down and how it has won and lost. |

Oh, please. I just spam build my base with Supply Depots and hope the opponent leaves. That is how I get my wins.

SCV WALLS! Then you send some in at a time and the scvs cut it into little pieces...

The first thing that comes to mind when I see an Terran SCV, Protoss Probe, or a Zerg Drone on my base that early in the game, is map hack. Yeah it could just be a good guess, but 9/10 the person is either crazy or is hacking. (Granted that there is more then 1 possible start location for you) Then what happens next is they usually try to make an anti-ground type of weapon. (Protoss Probe -> Pylon/Photon Cannon) They either do this, or they attack your base so that you have to stop mining and either fix it or kill the enemy. This would throw someone off if they are new to odd game play. Me for one, I freak out and send all my workers in a bum rush type of tactic to kill who ever the person is trying to do harm to me so early in a game.
This is why I like UMS better...
