What does SEN think? I'm 18 (will be in december) and I'm only a sophmore. I have the rest of this year and probably next year to go but I feel like dropping out and going for the GED.

I was thinking about joining the military which does allow for for with GED's to join but they only allow a certain percentile (think around 800 people nation wide) a year. Though with 15 college credits I could be considered the same as someone with a highschool diploma.

I was told that if I go for GED I should look into a trade but I really don't know how those work.

Wat do SEN?

I know I'm probably going to get kicked out of high school because I always end up with a lot of absences and lose credits. So i figured I should really consider dropping out as a reality and consider what I'm going to do if I do get kicked out.

So could you guys give me your opinion and help on:
-The military route I brought up
-How to: Tradeschool
-Any other options
-Your personal experience with being a drop out if you are

I need to get out of highschool but I can't wait another two years. Honestly if I could get into any job that was more of a physical labor then sitting in an office I'd be happy.

"lol flippan burgas" posts. No thanks k? If I do then okay then thats what I'm going to do. If not then, cool. Flipping burgers posts are troll posts.

Back* from the grave

For srs:

If you're interested in the military, research it. I'd recommend the Air Force, as they tend to care more about careers than the other branches, but they also prolly have higher requirements.

Trade Schools are...well, if you've had a "vocational" school affiliated with your high school, like mine was affiliated with Grant Vocational School, they are the trade school. They'll teach you stuff like welding, car repair, etc. Stuff that generally doesn't take too much actual studying. The caveat, though, is that if you decide after 10 years of doing whatever profession you've picked that you're going to kill yourself if you do it one more time, then you're either going to be poor or dead. Trade schools usually teach people to do skilled tasks well, but that ability is seldom transferable between trades.

I'm not a dropout, and I don't really have any other knowledge of options, as I haven't even considered it :/ What I typed is from memory, so if I'm wrong I'd be glad for someone to correct me.

Air force has the lowest percentile of people being able to join with JUST a GED. Next up is the marines. The army is the most lenient. Though I'm wondering if I could aquire college credits with a GED. I thinking that with a GED I could join a low tier college. something like a community or county college amirite? Take a couple of classes for the 15 credits or even stick with the college and pick serious classes though I think the military would be better since the 'payout' would be better and after being in the military I could get into a better college and have better opportunities amirite?

I'm looking to get out with a GED and then throw a layer of something over it to cover it. Like military or some sort of low tier college degree before getting in to a full time rest of my life job/career.

Que Sera, Sera.

My english teacher never graduated high school, joined the army, got out, started a gym, went through college and is about to get doctorate in a few weeks. He's the most educated out of all the english teachers in my school. You can do anything essentially.

We live in a society.

Out of curiousity, what are you doing exactly that's causing you to be absent all of these times and lose your credits?

I dropped out, and I definitly remember what it was like. I was scared, really, to step foot in a tech school after I got my GED because I wasn't sure how I'd be taken on the whole situation. Point is, you aren't alone. So many people are going back to get their GED or tech level diplomas because of unemployment, so you'll fit right in most likely.

In terms of picking something to do.. Just pick something that interests you. Even if you don't finish and join the military, you still nabbed those credits; if you use them or not afterwards, thats up to your own discretion.

I don't know anything else about the military though, so don't ask me that.

I guess to put it plainly It's just me not going to school. I want to explain exactly why I've been pretty much cutting school but I'd feel as though I'm making excuses though to me they are valid. But of course they would to me right? eh. It's personal I guess. I'm just trying to focus on the situation I've put myself in now and what's really my best option, one that doesn't just leave me /just/ being content.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

If you can't go to school, then you can't show up for your job. Get into the military. You're pretty much suited for it, and they'll whip you into shape. So long as you feel you can complete it, having a military career on the resume is quite impressive. However, if you get discharged, you'll be flipping burgers. If that's not what you want, I suggest you become some sort of construction worker, possibly with the DOT. If you join a government agency, you'll get more internal job offers, and the government is woefully inefficient, so you'll fit right in.

The only way you get a full time/rest of my life career is to become a police officer or go to a college and get really lucky in the job search. Otherwise you'll be jumping from lower paying jobs to higher paying jobs all the time.

Hear me Raor!!

I didn't graduate highschool
I am now an assistant manager at IBM, and going to school for something actually worth while.
High school is a joke, On my GED test i scored in the top 20% which is an average of high school test/GED test. ( So that would be considered the top 20% of high school students / GED test.

If you are good at testing/ smart. There is no reason to waste time in high school. ( I have heard you can actually go to the military after taking so much of college as well )
So if you are not accepted with just a GED you just need to go to college for a semester or so.

If you feel like you can't complete high school because you have no motivation, there's no point doing it if you're just going to skip and fail all your classes. To be honest, it's not that hard to get a passing grade just to get your high school diploma though. The reason I found high school more enjoyable than college is because I got to see my friends everyday because we actually had classes and breaks together. But as rockz said, if you can't even show up to school, you'll never be able to do any sort of office job because it's the same obligation.

Both dropped out. Got GED which was RIDICULOUSLY easy. Found out I wasted 2 years of my life in high school. Currently on my fifth quarter at West Georgia Technical College, and things couldnt be better. Im learning a field Im good at (Computer stuff ya know), and finical aid pretty much covers everything for me.

And, when I get enough credits, some will be usable at a university if I seek for a higher education.

I also agree with this, If your issue is you have no motivation, you better make sure its not you. Because then you wont be able to move on once you drop out of school.
I have a friend that dropped out and I got him a Job at IBM... and all he does is call in. ( He is on the verge of losing this job too )

Dungeon Master

I dropped out; from what I've heard it's much better to have an actual diploma than a GED. I'm finishing my high school via correspondance, and it's a pain the ass. IMO stay in school. Though it depends on the reason you're not attending classes or w/e.

👻 👾 👽 💪

From what I can tell is in most situations a GED == a high school diploma... For colleges and such it should be made up for if you are good at the ACT/SAT. For military it should be made up for by the ADSVAB (or whatever the hell that was).
I didn't drop out, but I also didn't complete high school so I got a GED.

Okay how about this route:

Drop out -> Take GED -> If pass -> Try an Arts college -> go for associates in Animation art and Design
-> If fail GED-> Take it again ->

Point out the flaws in my plan please.

Edit: Well I would need to take the SAT's too and try to get a decent score before even considering trying to join a college.

Seems like a good plan.. ( Don't listen to the people who say you need your high school diploma.... all you "NEED" is high test scores on any test you take from now on.
A normal art school will have a simple admissions test, and if you pass it. You will be accepted. Once you get an associates, guess what! No one will ever ask you if you have a high school diploma / or a GED. It just won't matter because you already moved passed that point once you get an associates.
- Once you get your 2 year, you can actually show a Universaty your GPA at college, instead of your high school. They will have you take the SAT's / ACT's. Depending on the score you get, you will be accepted into any 4 year school.

- I don't even have my degree yet ( still GED ) and I am already assistant manager. Actual title ( ID FOCAL ) ( I don't even need to go to college, but I am so I can move up faster )

Yesterday I was informed that I am moving to level 3.. ( Which comes with more pay )
That's with just a GED. ( Which I didn't even have until after 3 months of having this job lol )
