As you awaken and open your eyes, you are greeted with a bright, blurry haze all around you and a mild headache. Your senses clear up a moment later and you observe you are in a large, well-lit concrete room. You and 10 others. You blink drowsily and attempt to examine the room more carefully. You observe there is a large, diamond-shaped pit in the center of the room with something that appears to be dangling above it on a string. To the north end of the room is a large reflective glass panel and, on each side of it, large, fortified handle-less metal doors. You estimate the room is large enough that you would have to spend some time just to walk across it from one side to another.

As you scan further, you notice each person in the room is evenly spaced along the east, west, and south walls. They each appear to all be wearing a strange suit with many pockets on the front. They also have bandages wrapped around their heads obscuring their identity. Each of them appears to have a hand inside an opening in the wall nearby.

As your senses further improve, you observe that you, too, appear to be in the same predicament. Closer inspection reveals your hand is trapped inside a device embedded in the wall with a keyhole and a single red button next to it.


You also note that you are located <verbose version of starting position>.


Just as you contemplate pushing the button, a loud and vaguely familiar voice booms out from unseen intercom:

“Greetings, everyone. You have all been invited here tonight to participate in a fun little game of mine. The objective of this game is simple: Survive. That is, be the only one to survive. The last man standing will be rewarded with their freedom!

You will notice that your right hand is trapped inside a device in the wall. You are also dressed in a special uniform with 16 deep pockets. Inside one of these pockets is a key. Your choice is to spend your time attempting to find the key to unlock the device, or else to simply push the button instead. The key will unlock the device and free your right hand. The button will destroy your hand, and the device will detach from the wall and become permanently attached to your arm. However, there will be a sharp blade at the end of the device which you may find handy to accomplish your objective.

Oh, one final thing. You have only 5 minutes to complete your objective before this room is flooded with nerve gas.
