how do i fix the damn nook n crannie thing?
None.
An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death
I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.
attach the map and we will find out what causes that.
I had the same error message in sc before (2 years ago), I didnt know what I did, I cannot remember.
watch where your buildings are standing. maybe a small building is in the first row in the south of the map.
or maybe you are > unit limit or sprite limit...
or did you use many doodads?

The problem is just about your terrain. You need to use less "nooks" and "crannies" as in make the areas wider, you have too many small tunnel areas.

the terrain itself cannot be the problem...
a map without walkable terrain works perfectly.... (excepting the units cannot be created message with the workers)
the error message refers to the count of used sprites in doodads, I think.
delete some doodads and doors....
did you use many doodads? (trees, rocks, etc....)
no its the terrain itself. just make some areas wider.

It was probably this error message:
"The map could not be loaded because it had too many
obstructions. Try widening corridors and reducing the number of small
nooks and crannies to correct the problem."
So the message is technically about
obstructions.
Nooks and crannies is only an explanation of what it means.
The obstructions are referring to
a) things like rocks and trees that block (obstruct) the way of units,
b) sprites or doodads on the terrain that make it more diversified and realistic (by depicting n&c).
Plain terrain will never cause problems. Many maps with a picture on the minimap wouldn't work if that were the case.
I have received that error message several times when there was no sprites at all on the map.
None.

your point?
That plain terrain can cause the problem. Duh.
nuderaider's error message quote is correct, but so all i need to do is take away some doodads? I did that and i took out nearly everyone... its not working. I took out doors too, and i widened everything but its still too small. WTF!!!

No, Ahli, I disagree. I have received this error message myself.
Here's a map to test it.
http://www.clanunknown.net/uploads/maps/SUPERTEST.scmIt's just terrain and it gives the error message.
If SC crashes, play another map first and then play it.
Sie_Sayoka, I agree with you.
Now, since I'm basing this purely on experience, I'm only concluding that pure terrain can cause this error. Of course, there may be other contributing factors such as doodads, but I have not tested this, and there's no evidence to suggest otherwise.
None.
From my experience it is caused by tiles that have partial walking ability, so to fix your problem just take those tiles out and replace them with pure non-walkable or walkable terrain.

I've downloaded the "SUPERTEST.SCM" and it
crashes my sc without any message. After playing a valid map it
kicked me out of bnet with the above message. When I change large portions of the map to be plain jungle however it plays fine.
Then I've made the attached testmap which has ONLY plain terrain and doodads. With 128x128 it played fine, but as soon as I resized it to 256x256 and added more doodads it
kicked me out of bnet with the above message.
So from MY experience there has nothing been wrong with what I said. But I see now terrain too can cause this message so, Marine, I'd say you try the terrain hint too and if this ALSO fails, then upload the map and we'll find a solution for you together.

Excellent. Yes, you are right. That's a funny map limit.....
even with *.scx and map compressing (size from 200 to 86kb) resulted into an error...
LW said it has to do with the MTXM section.
This section includes doodads as terrain; TILE, which is otherwise identical, doesn't. Out of the terrain sections (TILE, ISOM, and MTXM), SC only reads MTXM for the sake of not having to generate this data on-the-fly: it contains the exact representation of the level's appearance, including doodads. TILE, on the other hand, is directly tied via a tile lookup function to ISOM, and exists for the sake of not having to generate tiles from ISOM on-the-fly in StarEdit.
So basically it is terrain and doodads count as terrain too.

Ive been getting kicked off bnet too, and alot of times it doesnt say anything at all. And like nude said, if i take out nearly the entire terrain and leave it blank it plays fine. I'll try and upload the map after i try to fix it a few more times.

This was added to sc to stop the map where it was possible only for terran to win, if you all remember it had 1block corridors between bases, and terran could build/repair a supply depot, floaty to the vespene and get tanks. Honestly, I had this problem in a map and I just make less small walkable areas, obstructions like doodads and maps in extended dont get this problem.
