OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Welcome to the new and improved StarEdit Network v5.1! Thanks to an incredible design by Corbo and brand-new coding by Devourer, SEN has received a full overhaul just in time for StarCraft 2's release in the coming weeks.

All of the major features of SEN v5.0 have been either kept or modified, but version 5.1 brings us the following:
  • New skin and layout by Corbo.
  • Quicksearch feature.
  • Improved filters.
  • Better navigation.
  • More advanced forum index design. Keep in mind that clicking the SC2 or SC1 logos in the navigation bar will change the forum displays based on your choice.
  • Full implementation of minerals (with the store coming soon).
  • Support for official and fan-made contests (and a new feature called "Contest Points").

Work is currently being done on a few more unlisted features including better use of clans hosted on SEN as well as a better way to manage map projects.

As with any new design, there are bound to be bugs here and there. The Staredit Network forum is always available to report any issues you may find, or to suggest any features you'd like to see added.

I'm also happy to announce a new website we're developing called StarEdit TV. SENtv will be a new addition to the StarEdit Network devoted to hosting SC2 tutorials and map previews. The tutorial videos will be linked back to articles on our SC2 wiki, and the previews will be linked to their respective "Production" or "Showcase" topics. SENtv should be unveiled in the next few weeks.

We hope you enjoy the new look and features. Thanks for making SEN the best StarCraft community on the web.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

I have already noticed a few bugs, I will go post them in the respectful areas.

But I must say, it looks nice and the SEV looks like it should be a much welcomed feature.

Kudos to the new administration team.

devilesk: THIS IS WHAT I THINK OF THE NEW SKIN http://i49.tinypic.com/2ugz67s.png
OR RATHER IT IS MY OPINION OF IT OVER TIME
[14:32] IsolatedPurity: really?
[14:32] devilesk: yes
[14:32] devilesk: it was nice to look at for the first few minutes
[14:32] devilesk: then im like eh
[14:32] devilesk: i like carbonite better and would still rather use that
[14:32] devilesk: carbonite owns that skin
[14:33] devilesk: i like the nice sharp lines instead of the curves for forums
[14:34] devilesk: the skin is distracting
[14:34] devilesk: TAKES YOUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE REAL PURPOSE OF THE FORUM
[14:34] devilesk: its like if im reading a book do you want background images on every page?
[14:34] devilesk: like text on top of background images
[14:34] devilesk: NO YOU WANT PLAIN WHITE PAGES WITH BLACK TEXT
[14:35] devilesk: maybe the cover of the book can be nice and decoractive AT MOST
[14:36] devilesk: carbonite has the perfect blend
[14:36] devilesk: it has a nice header got some curves
[14:36] devilesk: the top of the forum has some nice rounded edges
[14:36] devilesk: but then the rest is all business
[14:36] devilesk: has a little border around the edges
[14:36] devilesk: but that's it
[14:37] devilesk: nice clean look
[14:37] IsolatedPurity: hm
[14:37] devilesk: the little shadows and bevels around boxed sections is a nice little touch but that's it
[14:37] devilesk: also the more i look at the skin the more it reminds me of a folder and that's just dumb
[14:38] devilesk: the forums look like flaps or scales
[14:39] devilesk: all it is is like
[14:39] devilesk: OMG I CAN USE GRADIENTS AND SHADOWS AND OPACITY AND SHIT SO COOL!
[14:39] devilesk: but in reality it's just lame
[14:40] devilesk: i think the top is nice and the big main headers is nice
[14:40] devilesk: but i think all that shit for the individual forums is too much
[14:40] devilesk: like just make it regular boxes for the insides
[14:40] devilesk: maybe with some bevel and shadow like what carbonite has
[14:41] devilesk: i think it could also just be the fact that there's no fucking bottom edge to any of them
[14:41] devilesk: it just blends into the background and into the next one which is stupid
[14:41] devilesk: i want a bottom
[14:42] devilesk: also
[14:42] IsolatedPurity: yeah, i am curious
[14:42] devilesk: the whole thing looks like a fuckin button
[14:42] IsolatedPurity: on what normal boxes might look like
[14:42] devilesk: i feel like its some flash shit that if i hover over it it will do some shit
[14:42] devilesk: and if click it it will have some animation like a button
Nothing's changed. The skin is still shit.

As a side note, I really love the way you can minimize forums.

Yeah, that's because we stuck with Corbo's design aesthetic instead. We're working on more skins, and a Carbonite redo can be done in the future.

Hello

Devilesk, why don't you do us the favour and just shut up?
You are nothing but flaming hard work.

Obviously, skins are a matter of taste and I will not redo a skin for someone who doesn't like this skin, not for one who is flaming, annoying and trolling all the time.
Leave this topic.

No, I'm just voicing my opinion. This skin is awful and made by a member who doesn't even come to SEN anymore.

And it's incredibly stupid to implement this skin without having other skins to choose from. Now we're all forced to use this crap skin.

We heard you multiple times complain that you want Carbonite back. We'll work on it. That's the best I can tell you right now.

There is no way for you to access them but they are still there. I'll prolly bring em back somehow tomorrow or later.

Would it be possible to hold a contest of sorts where you give us a 'template' of this skin where we pretty much replaces images with our own so that it's a skin based on Corbo's idea except with our colors and images. I've always wanted to submit a skin to Dev but I just sucked at the coding part and what images should go where and what not but I suck at the coding part of the skin. That way you guys don't have to strain yourselves on fulfilling a task that isn't really a priority and still give the community a choice (plus devilesk would make a super deformed ms paint skin that I know everyone is going to go crazy about) .

Also Contests are always fun. MOAR contest.

How good are you with Photoshop? This whole skin started as a simple PSD file and Devourer broke it down and built around it. I'm sure if you took a screenshot of the SEN site, changed colors and images as you wanted, that would be enough to give a general idea of what you wanted to do and hopefully someone else would do the CSS for it.

Seriously, find a fix for high resolutions (1920x1080), because I will not stand such an ugly skin for long :(
Also, everything looks sad and grey! Put more green in there, and make it brighter (the forum-list is fine, the rest is sad).

Suicidal Insanity -- On game start you could detect who is at which start location, store that in switches / dcs, and use that to permanently force alliances. Lots of combinations though

MTiger156 -- That 2v2v2v2 mapping problem does sound like an interesting challenge. Its worth putting some experimentation into. I could make an example map for combining locked alliances (based on lobby forces) + random start location. Though an EUD solution would be the most efficient, I will avoid that for the sake of simplicity.

well, that's the gist of sc mapping. Either accept the limits sc sets for you and work within those parameters, or get creative and find complicated solutions to achieve what you want. The latter can be most satisfying. Sometimes comprised are inevitable though. Also see my respnse in the thread.
