I have no problem with judging your map even if Unholy said we shouldn't enter our own contests. I'm confident that you did not start the map prior to the contest. What would you gain from cheating when there's nothing but minerals at stake anyway?

More maps being judged means better competition and it's that much more enjoyable to those that will take the time and effort to enter the contest.

I could try and whip something up for this contest. No guarantees, mind-- it's not exactly my only thing to do this week, and if the project ceases to show significant potential, I'll stop work on it, contest or not. The theme could be interesting, though.

Well, as for me, I've only ever entered one contest and only because the theme of the contest coincided with an idea I already had. As it stands, I already have two ideas for maps I'd want to make outside a map contest - I haven't lost interest in SC mapmaking, I just build them at my own pace - usually the contests don't factor in whatsoever.

I don't like the theme.

Hey leeroy, can you help by listing some plausible ideas?

Here's stuff that I can think of...

1. We can have kingdom style war games.. diplomacy and shit.. but hopefully not as boring/long-winded
2. I was also thinking of a Factions styled game, where the more civs (houses such as supply depots) you have, the more money you get to build troops/upgrades. However, others can just run in and kill your major building and take over all your civilians, leaving you with nothing.
3. Town Wars
4. Doesn't even have to be strategic games... an RPG with an empire story background...
5. DragonCraft/Nexus Destroyers/Uberarena styled games. Personally, I think another dragoncraft styled game should be made
6. Castle Wars ??!?

What I dislike about your theme ideas is that they're far too generic, and even if they're not, they're not terribly original.

Something interesting would be a game based around Larvas. And I don't mean something like Larva Dodge, but a strategical game where Larvas play the main part.

We could be so generic that it's ungeneric. Just hope we aren't AS generic yet still not put as much thought and energy into it.

Let's get the most generic themes and /or generic prerequisites and have a randomizer hand them out to contestants.

The idea is to use a theme that's vague enough to encompass pretty much every type of map. With a theme like "Empires", you can't say that none of your current ideas could possibly conform. If it's a RPG, just add a story about defeating an evil emperor, doing your emperor's bidding or anything remotely generic like that. If it's a RTS, just add enough lore to make the players think that they're running an empire. I can't think of anything that couldn't abide to that theme.

I don't think that anyone gets ideas based on the theme of the contest; we just have a bunch of ideas in inventory, take one and adapt it as best as we can to properly suit the theme.

Personally, I don't even think they serve any purpose whatsoever. In my opinion, it would be best to remove them entirely or use other generic ones as we have done so far.

I am going to make a map for this, even though I am a judge I will just do it for fun.

First off, high horses are in. They're hip, they're cool, they're shway, they're what everyones talkin bout, if you ain't got one, then you ain't nothin. Secondly, Starcraft mapping is serious secretive business. Thirdly, WE'RE ON A FUCKING ROCK FLYING THROUGH SPACE.
