Ever since the movie Cloverfield began their Viral Marketing campaign, I've had somewhat of an obsession with ARG's, or alterate reality games. They usually include a small group of people or person that slowly reveals clues about the plot or surroundings of the game, usually using very creative and strange techniques, such as setting up fake blogs, facebook profiles, and websites that have to be figured out.
This is the one that I'm mostly involved in right now. Its boxed because it's not that important, just some fun info.
Collapsable Box
The one I'm currently involved in is the one for JJ's newest movie, Super 8. It started out as a trailer. The trailer had a certain set of words that flashed across it, that formed the name of a website. The website showed a java version of an old computer system, that had a download countdown. The countdown lead to another website, and a cryptic message, which has still yet to completely be figured out. Then, just today, a random folder appears on the simulator with a sound file inside of it that plays a series of notes. Right there is where us ARG'ers are stuck as of now.
Most of this stuff goes down at the forums on Unfiction.com. Some of the things people think of on that site are absolutely insane. It's like a massive brain trust.
So, anybody else involved in ARGs? And if so, which and how are they coming along?
None.
http://www.staredit.net/topic/8724/I used to be into ARG's but a lot of them suck. I was into Marble hornets and it was REALLY good but when they brought out other "Slender man" shots i could easily tell it was like a mannequin and the immersion dissipated, quickly. Actually me and Jack worked on a small beta example one to start a real one later. We have like a couple of things done and were probably going to post it on /x/ or the ARG forum just to get a feel on how ARG's work and if we were any good on it. The ideas and files i made were never really used.
It's only fun when your actually contributing though.
I wish their was an ARG IRL that took place in my town.
None.
Wow madzombie, that seems like one of the craziest ARGs i've ever seen.
So far, the super 8 one hasnt revealed that much besides the settings of the film and what it may be centered around.
It would also be awesome to make one myself. It's fun to have your own "mystery box"

I once spent an hour playing the Sims. How unoriginal.

I'm currently totally sucked in to FlynnLives for the release of Tron: Legacy. It's been fun so far, and they've even been giving out free stuff.
Currently Working On: My Overwatch addiction.

Yeah I'mbeingfollowed was good while I played, but I couldn't help much as I got busier and busier, so I stopped.
Red classic.

Not at all what we were talking about.
None.
That's the closest thing I've ever played to an Alternate Reality Game.

Woah that's so cool, I've never heard of these ARG's.
It'd be cool to do one, but I don't even know if I could do it very well.
