This video is used with this map file: http://www.mediafire.com/?0ye2mjdimz2

Download the map file, open it up, and use my favorite tiles to quickly cut//paste minicliffs!

I use the top left of the map as a pallete, and I used a mini-pallete for the video because the screen size was so small. Really, all you do is cut//paste when doing this style of terrain. There is also a lot more in this map that was not shown in the video.

The cracks that use as the edges of the cliffs are actually cracks that the isom brush places at transitions from dirt to water, and are NOT walkable. Let me know if you have any more requests for howto videos, or would like me to explain something more in-depth.

I order you to forgive yourself!

Not sure if they were made by you, but the space ships at the bottom left were very cool.

I made everything in that map. Spaceships? Lol what do you mean ;P

Haha, I see what you're getting at. I think it's supposed to be a tree trunk though.

It's definitely a random rock thing.

Random cave in the middle of a map, without a different look than the rest of the map?

Edit: They would look better if they were smaller.

You have a slow style of making terrain. Which is good, I suppose.

Lol, I went about as fast as you can go without copy//pasting from older pieces. If you custom create something new in extended terrain it takes time. I was also using hotkeys like crazy during that video; you can't really get faster since the process is a creative and spontaneous one. Thanks for the thought though.

Cecil makes works of art with this slow style.

You're definitely one of the better terrainers out there, so I'm here to pay my respects :)

It's interesting to see your process as it is quite different from my own. I would liken your method to painting because you start with a blank space and add tiles onto it. On the other hand, I lay down a base layer of isometric terrain and 'sculpt' it. Also, I notice that you copy and paste a lot (even for individual tiles!) while I pretty much stick to ctrl-clicking in tileset index mode.

If there is one thing I dislike about the free-hand style that you use, it's that the terrain does not conform to SC's native isometry. This isn't really a problem, per se, but it does mean that isometrical portions and non-isometrical portions do not mesh together. What ends up happening is that it becomes immediately apparent which parts were pieced together and which parts were made using the isometrical brush.

That bit aside aside, you work a lot faster than I do, and I like that you try to limit repetition by varying the cliff tiles. And of course, I'm probably the only other person out there who uses low dirt -> low dirt half cliffs, so I hope this helps spread the love.

I just plop sprites on top of those and call them trees, lol.

Thanks guise. And yeah, I definitely hope some more people use some dirt -> low cliff -> dirt terrain again. I'm using these in my new map that will released at any moment (it would be released later today, but I forgot my flashdrive and can't work on it.

I used one in my new map as the base of a tree.

@qPK
Yeah I do use a blank space when I know exactly how to do something before I start. However, when I'm doing something more vague or something I haven't before tried, then I usually lay down the bones and add onto and sculpt them.

Wait what? Are you talking to me about the stalagmite thing? I didn't say I invented it, it's just a mirror of the cave doodad, nothing special.

@Ciara: If cecil is a slow terrainer, I must be immobile. Judging from the video, of course.

Either hold Ctrl and draw out the outline (kind of like the lasso tool in photoshop), or hold down shift and select rectangles.
