First, is W-Mode (windowed SC) considered a hack? Will Warden bitch at me if I use it?

Second, are there any fixes or protection for the exploit that causes SC to crash when clicking on a specially-crafted game name? Some asshole just hit me with this, I'd rather it not happen again. 'Sides, chances are it's a buffer overflow, so who knows what else that exploit could allow?

Third... Are there such things as "defensive hacks"? That is, hacks that have various defenses (crash protection, drophack protection, etc.) but without the cheats? (Think "castrated Oblivion".) If links aren't allowed, then I just need a "yes" or "no" answer, so I know whether the large amount of time I'm spending on Google is being wasted. (Yes, I could just get something like Oblivion and not use the cheats... But that's a lot of keys to remember not to press. I'd be bound to make a mistake some time, and given the possible effects (cheats), I'd be being a dick for doing so.)

Yes, W-Mode is a hack, but warden will most probably not bitch at you. Alternatively use chaos launcher.

Oblivion in its standard form has quite a few passive hacks active most of which can be deactivated via the .ini file. But some hacks can't be deactivated even if you're not accidentally hitting a key, like idle worker display, or minimap ping display, which is annoying. I like some features of it like seeing dl state or being able to swap people (i only play with friends and swapping is easier than asking them to move), checking in game ping to find laggers and more.

I wonder if Zyn would be willing to add a cheatless option to Oblivion, if popular demand was high enough.

If he did, I'd DL it. As it is, I don't want to be branded a hacker just because I want the utility that Nude mentioned. I believe that hacking to get rid of people or give yourself an unfair advantage is wrong and I really dislike it when I and/or others just randomly get dropped in-game because of some whim of a hacker.

On that topic definitely the most fun option of Oblivion is to swap comp players with humans. So a human can play a comp slot. Think Desert Strike with microed spellcasters.

Zyn has already expressed that he has little to no interest in an 'Oblivion Lite' sort of deal. He is a hack maker, the last thing he wants to do is cater to the needs of people who don't like what he does in the first place.

Hence my "Probably not." conclusion. Guess I'll just have to tape the cheatkeys or something, so I can remember by texture (or some equally pathetic compensation for terrible memorization skills) D:

Zynastor actually put up hack protection to a hack before it was even released. (Which ironically, prodded the maker of the hack (allah) to release it)

Especially with all the game list crash games. I still don't have access to that hack - even though it is certainly hilarious. I hated it so much until I was protected. xD

I could never trust someone as untrustworthy as a hacker. He releases these hacks because it pleases him be so popular. What if one day it takes more for him to get his jollies? What if next time you DL the latest version of oblivion, it installs some virus or wipes your hard drive? The permissions you previously gave to oblivion in order to run it will leave your computer completely vulnerable. He'd definitely get his lulz, with no repercussions.

Not a gamble I'm willing to make just so I don't get dropped sometimes.

If only I could code hacks well enough to gain the favor of the hacking masses, b.net would be hack free (but hopefully not user-free, I don't know how many people really do hack)

Zynastor is very protective of his reputation and what his name is attached to. Yes he's a hacker, but he's an elite, on the levels of QPK, Panzer, Tux, and BoltHead in terms of mappers. They simply do not come more skilled or dedicated. To suggest that Zyn would ever willingly package a virus or malicious tool with his hacks is ridiculous. You just don't like him Clans.
