I am currently developing a game with a few friends and we are looking for what type of talent is available to us. I am posting here to inquiry the community as to what aspects of game design/development you are good at.

I'd like to give more information about the actual game we are creating, but since we are in the early stages, I'd rather not create more vaporware if it turns out we quit making the game. However, I can say, we plan on creating at least a demo of the game. We are using Irrlicht for a graphics engine (using VC++), Irrklang for sound, Sauerbraten for multiperson level editting, IrrEdit for level design, Audacity for recording sound, and 3dsmax for models.

If you feel as though you have something you can contribute to the project, are reliable, and have spare time on your hands, post a quick run down of what you can do. Here's a list of what types of assistance we are looking for: a 3D modeler, a level designer, a coder/programmer, and some voice actors. If you can post what you can help with, some links or pics of past work, and a way to contact you, we will keep you in mind as we look for some help in developing this game.

This is a freelance project, but working with the group with deadlines will be good experience.

I've been recommended against Irrlicht as an engine, but I suppose it shouldn't matter what engine you use as long as you can control it well. God knows we've been using Starcrap all this time for maps, for instance. :P

Still. I'd recommend against basically anything 3d until you've got some experience from doing more basic 2d stuff, first.

I'm attending DigiPen soon for a degree in CS. Once I've been there for a bit I'd be very valuable as a programmer. Until then, I doubt I'd be of much help. Although, if you plan to be working on anything in the future (I start attending in September) you could ask me if I have any spare time and if so I'd gladly help out.

How long will this project be running? I might be able to join later, but atm I'm already working on one huge coding project and don't want to take on another. If you need someone to write an AI engine or something like that, though, go ahead and ask me. Though given my track record, I'm not going to be surprised if you don't want me.

I've done 2-D stuff before. I've heard some bad things about Irrlicht as well, however, I have chosen it after a month of testing other engines (such as Ogre, Dark Basic, and ect). I have already set up most of the basic camera controls, so I'm pretty sure it's what I want for my experience level.

Not sure. It's been only about two months of development, which encompasses researching, the storyboard, script, concept art, basic coding, basic button layout, and now level design.

Meh. If you're that far, you'll be done by the time I get my other projects to the point where I could join.

I am currently looking into Cityscape to help with the huge amount of 3D modeling that needs to be done. Just updating the topic with what programs we will be using.

What are the goals for the game after completion? Sell, giveaway?

It depends on how fast and how well the team works together. If development becomes a burden, then I want to just create a demo and try to sell it to a developer. However, if the team works great, then I can see it being completely finished and selling it ourselves.

For those wishing to know more about the actual type of game:

After my friend and I decided to rewrite the script, we both agreed to focus more on a combination of an Investigation, Horror/Scary, Survival game -- while keeping our main characters and plot. We want to combine the open-endedness of GTA, the investigative ideas of Condemned and Deadly Premonition, and a fighting system similar to Condemned. I want to allow for a user-dependent story line where the player is essentially creating the plot as they decide who to investigate and where to go, but of course, as a programmer, I am trying to make this simple enough for me to code.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

If I had access to a program like 3ds max, I could help you by creating characters and such, but I am NOT going to pay for it again. If anyone you know would want to lend me a key, I would download it again and get back into creating characters. Can you believe how awesome my Geometry teacher was? "Special assignment for you Mr. Stevens. Learn 3ds max." ...What?

Special assignment for you Mr. Stevens. Learn BLENDER!!

No really, it's free and as powerful, if not more powerful. 2.5's interface can be customized to act like 3DS's, if you've been put off by the interface in the past.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

3ds max is the only three-dimensional image editor I have ever used and have never explored further options. I guess it could be done if Aost is in need of a modeller, it will have to wait until I get my new desktop in however. It will be able to run image editors without any problems, where as this laptop, would suck huge monkey nuts.

I can also offer my voice and have a pretty good sense of helping maintain someone's original idea, but building around it and cutting out things I feel are not needed. Essentially, I won't do something EXACTLY as I am told, it's just not how I operate.

I'm sure I can provide a keygen if need be. Can I see some of your work Loveless?

And as for Bender vs. 3DS Max, that would be entirely up to the person doing the modeling.

I have nothing to show of my work, it was all done at my high school classroom 2+ years ago, but the ability is there and any re-education I need is easily attainable through the power of the internet. I will not expect myself to be included automatically, so I will submit a model when possible. Can I get some kind of an idea as to what your looking for? The best character I made was just a buffed up, scarred up, rugged individual. The only thing I could never do too well was faces, I have trouble making them very distinct.

After spending a whole day of coding the load screens and collision functions and classes, I decided to start looking into using Blender and the CityEngine Python plugin and the Unreal Engine 3.

Yeah, so I downloaded Blender and I am definitely not going to be able to model for you, it's been too long and I am too used to 3ds max. Should have kept my mouth shut.
