I'm sure a lot of you have experienced this before, and I'm fucking mad that these stupid ass "technicians" can't answer a simple question. What the hell is with these people? I'm trying to find the temperature at which my laptop parts will begin to fail. I can find most of the information myself, it's not that hard, like Intel has all their thermal design specs listed in relatively easy to find data sheets on their website: BAM 105C I got a number and that's all I need to know, for the motherboard in my laptop at least. But of course, I know that the motherboard is only one part, so I email nVidia to find the thermal specs for the graphics card I have (most of their temperatures are listed, but not the one I happen to have since it's a laptop model) and I email Gateway to find the maximum operating temperature that they designed the laptop for. Neither damn company can come up with a simple freaking number. If they lied to me, and said, "235 degrees C" I would be fucking happy. I would know they're lying, but at least I'd have a response. All nVidia will give me is "go talk to your laptop maufacturer" and all Gateway will give me is "you laptop is in warranty, but call our phone and pay $3 a minute for us to not tell you the answer anyway"

Does anyone have any tricks for dealing with these retarded indian customer service "technicians"?
(no offense to you non-retarded indians, I know some of you folks are nice people).

None.

I honestly plan on never dealing with customer service whenever I get any product. If there is something that is clearly the company's responsibility to give me, I will yell at them and their supervisors and their supervisor's supervisor, but sometimes customer service just sucks.

None.

Ask for level 2 support. They will give you a new "X" if something is slightly wrong with it.

What? I don't know what you mean by the "X" stuff. Also if you could clarify the level 2 support I'd be grateful.

Still no answer by the way. They've basically admitted that they don't have the data too.

Unfortunately we do not have the exact temperature listed that determines when the components will begin to malfunction.

Level 2 support
If you're calling about your say, router, for example, and it turns out something is wrong with it, (and it's under some form of warranty) they will give up on trying to fix the problem over the phone and ask you to send it in, when they will send you a replacement one, rather than try to fix the problem. Instead they will take it back and make sure it works fine, then resell it as "refurbished".

Gateway wouldn't know anyway, you're going to have to find out what the core is, then find the data from nvidia. If you say it's a "gateway whatever" they will say something along the lines of fuck you, we don't have to do shit since it's a gateway. If you give them the specific data (I have a g86m GeForce 8400M GS and I would like to know what the maximum safe temperature is, much like Intel's specs on their website? If you don't have the data on the mobile series, then perhaps you could give me the non-mobile series specs, and comment on their accuracy?)

Lol. I started off not saying "its a gateway," and gave them the exact part, and they said "fuck you, go talk to your laptop manufacturer" pretty much. nVidia actually just transfered me to level 2 tech before I asked, when I gave them the laptop model, manufacturer, chipset, and graphics card exactly. We'll see how it goes.

Why wouldn't gateway know the thermal data though? They design the cooling system in the laptop don't they? I find it hard to believe that they'd just throw it all together and sell it. Actually on second thought, that isn't so hard to believe. I'm going to keep bugging them until they find it out for me though.

The sword and the faith

You know Vrael if you provided us with the info, I could probably help you out in a much quicker and efficient manner. Just saying. :P

Haha yeah I know. In fact, I don't really need this information, I know what's good and what's bad for a laptop. The point is, I want to get these numbers from these companies because they should give them to me. Also this way, the next time my motherboard fries, I can give them temperature readings and be like "this is way over the limit of X that you designed this machine for." The other day I was curious as to how hot my interior was getting and downloaded speedfan.exe, my gpu was at 97C, in a 20C room. It easily goes way above 90 if I don't keep an external fan dedicated to the airflow beneath the bottom where the intake vents are. I know the Tjunction of the chipset is 105 degrees, easily found on intel's website...

GPUs can generally speaking handle a little more than CPU and chipset. CPU tjunction depending on brand and such go from 85c-105c, while GPUs are 5-10c higher.

Being as picky as I am about temps, any system in my home must have a CPU that stays under 70C load and a GPU under 80c load.

My graphics card (ATi, the hot kind) probably crashes at 105 C. Turned my fan on 20% one day to see how hot it got, and crashed while playing brood war. Of course, that's just a guess, since I've seen it at 103 before (lol dust), and I couldn't see the temp when it crashed.

I'm surprised that nVidia can't/won't give you any information.

If you look nvidia up on the Better Business Bureau, they score an F on an A+ scale.

Edit:
Still wrestling with Gateway, you guys will love this email:

"unfortunately we do not have the exact temperature listed that determines when the components will begin to malfunction.

I regret for the inconvenience."
