Sand Wraith -- Jack
Jack shouted: Sand Wraith But that completely avoids the question Nude asked
The point is that it depends on the motive and target of the hacking.
[2014-12-05. : 12:47 am]
jjf28 -- now we say, goodbye; now we say, that you didn't try
[2014-12-05. : 12:28 am]
Jack -- Sand Wraith
Sand Wraith shouted: NudeRaider a better question is whether the system is ethical.
But that completely avoids the question Nude asked
[2014-12-05. : 12:26 am]
jjf28 -- lol NSA
[2014-12-05. : 12:17 am]
Sand Wraith -- e.g. I have utterly no faith in NSA using PRISM ethically and would love to see it annihilated before it results in further colonialism
[2014-12-05. : 12:15 am]
Sand Wraith -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: what's ethical about breaking into a system without authorization?
a better question is whether the system is ethical.
[2014-12-05. : 12:15 am]
Dem0n -- You can look into my D :teach:
[2014-12-04. : 10:28 pm]
Moose -- Jack
Jack shouted: moose I prefer C++ to Java
Jack
Jack shouted: With C++ I can pretend I'm still using C but take advantage of C++ stuff when I want to
They each have their pros and cons. IMO, C++ seems more "powerful" but has a lot more "quirks". In my admittedly limited experience, the ratio of time spent being productive versus time spent fighting with the language is better in Java. (Then again, I started working with Java after C++, so I'm sure that's a factor.) I think I might look into D or something, even though it's nowhere near as popular as the other two.

jjf28 -- to meet their equal opportunity quota?
[2014-12-04. : 9:13 pm]
*Sacrieur shrugs*
[2014-12-04. : 9:13 pm]
Sacrieur -- Why do they keep her in the party?
[2014-12-04. : 9:13 pm]
Sacrieur -- Except Hilary, she's going to vote conservative despite registering herself as a democrat. I don't get that.
[2014-12-04. : 9:12 pm]
jjf28 -- #politics
[2014-12-04. : 9:09 pm]
Sacrieur -- I think it would be too difficult to pay off both parties to get a copyright bill passed. If you pay off one party, the other party is automatically going to oppose it regardless of the bill's contents.
[2014-12-04. : 9:07 pm]
Sacrieur -- copyright*
[2014-12-04. : 9:06 pm]
Sacrieur -- /should/ of course, how much Apple can get away with pushing their agenda remains to be seen. So far things like jailbreaking are in limbo.
[2014-12-04. : 9:05 pm]
Sacrieur -- Ultimately it doesn't matter what copywrite laws say, personal ownership should trump it.
[2014-12-04. : 8:33 pm]
jjf28 -- for describing black hats :) http://www.007james.com/i/actors/goldfinger/harold_sakata/random-task.jpg
[2014-12-04. : 7:59 pm]
jjf28 -- ne ways if you're a grammerist, fix my definition :D
[2014-12-04. : 7:56 pm]
jjf28 -- oh you're talking mostly "person X rooting his own phone", not much unethical there, "person Y disseminating a root method" is more interesting
[2014-12-04. : 7:46 pm]
Sacrieur -- you don't own the "software", but you do own the bits that make up the software
[2014-12-04. : 7:40 pm]
jjf28 -- perhaps, but you don't own the software per say and harm can be done so theres still room for analysis
[2014-12-04. : 7:32 pm]
Sacrieur -- You own the phone, you may modify it and its software in any way you wish.
[2014-12-04. : 7:32 pm]
Sacrieur -- that's completely ethical
[2014-12-04. : 7:32 pm]
Sacrieur -- that's not grey hat
[2014-12-04. : 7:31 pm]
jjf28 -- i'll be looking at alot of grey-hat material such as hactivism, rooting phones, even my own work with starcraft
[2014-12-04. : 7:28 pm]
jjf28 -- we're using several ethical perspectives including kantianism, act utilitarianism, and rule utilitarianism
[2014-12-04. : 7:27 pm]
jjf28 -- do you know about the hacker hats? :)
[2014-12-04. : 7:27 pm]
NudeRaider -- what's ethical about breaking into a system without authorization?
[2014-12-04. : 7:25 pm]
jjf28 -- also "proper" might be redundant, not sure...
[2014-12-04. : 7:23 pm]
jjf28 -- i'm kind of iffy on that last comma, but without it "retrieve information" isn't paired as well with "without proper authorization"
[2014-12-04. : 7:22 pm]
jjf28 -- how bout: Seeking for, or exploiting vulnerabilities in computer systems that can be used to retrieve information or manipulate the system, without proper authorization.
[2014-12-04. : 7:21 pm]
jjf28 -- oh man, none of the dictionary definitions suit my presentation on ethical hacking, time to invent my own
[2014-12-04. : 6:20 pm]
NudeRaider -- under $10 for dvd burner. Soon they are cheaper than the raw materials needed to create it
[2014-12-04. : 6:19 pm]
NudeRaider -- and yes. it is a bit unrealistic ;)
[2014-12-04. : 6:18 pm]
NudeRaider -- Well he can't bend his own head, but he can bend everything in the matrix. Including how he appears in the matrix. That's his power.
[2014-12-04. : 6:14 pm]
jjf28 -- it is just code... doesn't mean neo can acquire the sudden mental fluidity to do something like wrap the head around in the way he's thinking without breaking it, some clipping, etc. this is where we get "that's a bit unrealistic" and "it's a movie", and that's where the discussion ends :kame:
[2014-12-04. : 6:10 pm]
NudeRaider -- Well when you see Neo in the "Matrix dimension" you see the code forming the walls and stuff (of course not like source code, but making up geometric shapes since it's for a movie and needs to be presented visually pleasing). And everything they do manipulate, like dialing numbers to teleport or get weapons is done on a computer terminal, apparently by entering code. How is it not supported that the spoon is also just code?
[2014-12-04. : 6:10 pm]
jjf28 -- hence, "it's a reach"
[2014-12-04. : 6:06 pm]
jjf28 -- it's not absurd, it's possible, but not well supported
[2014-12-04. : 6:06 pm]
NudeRaider -- you dont get it, why is my version so absurd in your eyes?
[2014-12-04. : 6:05 pm]
NudeRaider -- jjf28
jjf28 shouted: NudeRaider naw, NudeRaider NudeRaider is a reach
well fine if you think so. I never gave it much thought (even thought you were joking at first because it's so obvious imo) and automatically assumed it's what's happening. So if you think I'm reading too much into it what do you get from the movie? Since you said you don
[2014-12-04. : 6:05 pm]
jjf28 -- and for the record i've read the theories on the movie being a strict computer analogy, and I say bleh, they find what they look for
[2014-12-04. : 6:02 pm]
jjf28 -- yet another reason we need saved shoutbox edit text, then quotes from other pages could be appended to it on click :)
[2014-12-04. : 5:56 pm]
jjf28 -- yeah there we go
[2014-12-04. : 5:56 pm]
jjf28 -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: - if that were the case i'd just think away chunks of agents >>> That's exactly what Neo does when he fights 1000 Smiths.
?
[2014-12-04. : 5:56 pm]
jjf28 -- hmm, second quote wasn't correct
[2014-12-04. : 5:55 pm]
jjf28 -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: jjf28 -- playing the "its a movie" card while crafting elaborate arguments about it? shame. >>> Actually I just explained the basic premise of the movie. And yes, a SciFi movie gets to have a hero with super powers. It's not "playing the movie card". It's not a documentation and needs to be realistic. It just needs to make sense.
naw, NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: I can believe till it snows in Dorne, won't perfectly rearrange the bits in exactly the manner i'm thinking of without extensive training >>> Well believing doesn't do the trick, it's the requirement. And yes it makes no sense, that's why Neo is "the one" - the only one who can do it. It's a fucking movie...
NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: All the fancy fight scenes are jsut a representation for the viewer. In reality it's just programs trying to delete each other. Neo being the only human to be able to alter anything besides himself.
is a reach
[2014-12-04. : 5:42 pm]
Roy -- There was also a map using EUDs to detect lockdown, but the name eludes me.
[2014-12-04. : 5:38 pm]
Roy -- sdery23
sdery23 shouted: just recently heard about this thing called EUD's. I read through some of your tutorial, roy. Any maps you'd reccomend to look at besides dodgeball? (already saw dball)
You mean Fireball? There are a handful of maps that use EUDs. A couple submissions in a quick mapping contest use them, Dem0nS1ayer Bound uses EUDAs, and Middle of the Ocean 3 uses EUPs.
[2014-12-04. : 4:37 pm]
KooKsTeR -- Excalibur
Excalibur shouted: Kookster was here? :O
*is here.
[2014-12-04. : 3:52 pm]
NudeRaider -- Oh and swap "makes no sense" into "isn't realistic" when I was talking about what Neo can do earlier.
[2014-12-04. : 3:49 pm]
NudeRaider -- jjf28 -- playing the "its a movie" card while crafting elaborate arguments about it? shame. >>> Actually I just explained the basic premise of the movie. [2014-12-04. : 3:25 pm]
NudeRaider -- not my cup of tea, but I believe the bounders, touhou-ers and rhythm game lovers of SEN might enjoy it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smgstudio.onemoreline&hl=de

[2014-12-04. : 10:31 am]
Moose -- Damn it, Sac, you woke the rest of them up. Now nobody can party.
[2014-12-04. : 10:20 am]
Moose -- Ah, fuck it, you can party, too.
[2014-12-04. : 10:20 am]

[2014-12-04. : 10:19 am]
