[2023-12-21. : 1:27 pm] UndeadStar -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: m.0.n.3.y how much money are we talking? There is only one m.0.n.3.y[2023-12-20. : 4:11 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: m.0.n.3.y how much money are we talking? dozens of hours times dozens of dollars per hour, so I'd expect 4-figure payment[2023-12-20. : 1:36 pm] Ultraviolet -- m.0.n.3.ym.0.n.3.y shouted: Can I hire someone to do a EUD remake of a map? how much money are we talking? [2023-12-20. : 11:36 am] Oh_Man -- Yeh I undervolted to get rid of the noise. It was too much power going through.[2023-12-20. : 11:04 am] NudeRaider -- m.0.n.3.ym.0.n.3.y shouted: Can I hire someone to do a EUD remake of a map? nomen est omen[2023-12-20. : 3:44 am] Ultraviolet -- It's getting harder to identify because it seems to be making the noise less frequently. Not complaining Glad it seems to be settling down. Kind of strange that it would happen almost 100% of the time at first and gradually dissipate though[2023-12-19. : 3:54 pm] NudeRaider -- try to find it with a decibel measuring app on your phone. It's most often the GPU, PSU or Motherboard. HDD I would rule out.[2023-12-19. : 2:03 pm] Ultraviolet -- Oh_ManOh_Man shouted: Ultraviolet sounds like coil whine, try disconnecting the GPU temporarily to confirm Yeah, that's my understanding, too regarding the coil whine. What makes you say it's the GPU? Is that the most common part that experiences that? I'm using the same GPU from my previous rig and it never made that noise in the previous machine so I didn't think it would be the one causing it. But the hard drive is the same, too, so I guess my logic isn't that great. They both survived the explosion of the previous system (I believe it was the CPU that popped) so I guess maybe that affected something? They both still seem fully functional. Only issue I noticed when I moved over to the new machine was the new coil whine and when I watched videos at first they would kind of glitch out every few seconds, but that went away after a short while[2023-12-19. : 7:20 am] Oh_Man -- VraelVrael shouted: with AI generation (or even impersonation), I think you can ask yourself "What am I taking away from the source author?" And if the answer is "nothing" then I don't see any problem, like making a SC map I really dont think Viggo Mortensen would ever care true, all right yall unleash the AI voices[2023-12-19. : 7:19 am] Oh_Man -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Any tips on how to eliminate a high frequency whining noise from PC? I just built a new one after my old one exploded and this noise is driving me nuts. I don't mind the whirring fan noise, but this high frequency noise is terrible sounds like coil whine, try disconnecting the GPU temporarily to confirm[2023-12-18. : 1:48 pm] Ultraviolet -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Ultraviolet It's not an easy problem to fix and likely requires you to replace the component that's the culprit. First step would be to identify the part that's producing the whining. Then maybe we can have more specific advice. But usually it's just a frequency response of some chip on a component, so maybe it's feasible to install a magnetic filter, or decrease clock rate or something but usually there's nothing you can do. Yeah, my research showed the same It's hard to pinpoint, I'm thinking it's either the hard drive or CPU but I don't have any good evidence to support either of those claims. It seems to be intermittent, not sure if that helps diagnose it or not. I've never noticed it happen when I'm just in the BIOS, which is kind of what made me think maybe it was the hard drive since usually when Windows boots is when I first notice it[2023-12-17. : 4:31 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Any tips on how to eliminate a high frequency whining noise from PC? It's a difficult topic where I can see arguments for both sides and have no clear idea how to deal with this fairly. Of course it's no 1:1 copy so current copyright doesn't apply, but the ease with which you can create content makes it clear original artists need some form of protection, both to save them and art in the long term.[2023-12-11. : 6:06 pm] Vrael -- and as of today they dont owe you a dime for anything their AI generates in your style, unless you can win that battle in court[2023-12-11. : 6:05 pm] Vrael -- so like if you're a comic strip author and OpenAI or whoever just stole all your comic strips and now their model can reproduce things in your style, you never gave them permission to do that[2023-12-11. : 6:04 pm] Vrael -- ultimately I think there will be some kind of "Fair Use" guidelines for AI just like fair use for comedy and stuff, but maybe the bigger problem is that the people training the AI have unfairly scraped millions of websites to compile these datasets they use[2023-12-11. : 6:01 pm] Vrael -- now, if Lucasfilm gets an AI-scan clone of Viggo that they use to generate millions of dollars somehow, then I think Viggo is going to care quite a lot[2023-12-11. : 6:01 pm] Vrael -- with AI generation (or even impersonation), I think you can ask yourself "What am I taking away from the source author?" When you get into the realm of using AI to do it.. it seems even worse to me, but I'm not sure why [2023-12-08. : 8:38 pm] Zoan -- and tbh no, this is exactly the type of thing ai should be used for. Now if you were monetizing it, I would say you should emohasize you used ai for the voicelines[2023-12-08. : 2:24 pm] Oh_Man -- but if i want to make a LOTR map and use AI generation to give aragorn etc more voice lines am I now suddenly crossing a line? wen did we get so snowflakey[2023-12-08. : 2:23 pm] Oh_Man -- well we been doing dodgy stuff in SC for ages playing resident evil and helms deep maps - we dont own the rights to them[2023-12-06. : 8:46 pm] Ultraviolet -- NudeRaiderNudeRaider shouted: Ultraviolet absolutely. You can count me among those folks. But I understand it. It's a silly name only kids find funny. However to know that and still own it that would be the manliest move in my eyes. Yeah, I can appreciate that perspective. I've used so many handles over the years, I think I had less attachment to NerdyTerdy than some of the folks here. Just never changed my name much here cause it was expensive I still kind of like the NT name, but definitely prefer Ultraviolet. I think UV has been my handle for around half my life at this point O.o[2023-12-06. : 6:34 pm] NudeRaider -- So the question is will we as a society become resilient against these forms of attacks? Either by detecting or accepting? Find new ways to deal with it? I guess we will have to wait and see.[2023-12-06. : 6:32 pm] NudeRaider -- da real donwanoda real donwano shouted: Society is not ready for the AI power we're being given. I'll die on that hill. "social media" is imo a much better example for "society was not ready for it". We haven't seen yet where AI will lead us. It has a lot of potential for good, but then again, so had social media. For now the only potential for abuse in AI that I see is in forgery of various kinds.[2023-12-06. : 6:26 pm] NudeRaider -- Oh_ManOh_Man shouted: guys what are your thoughts on AI voice cloning vs someone doing impressions. why is one moral and the other immoral? or do you think both are fair game For me it's the intent that make the difference, not the method. If you copy someone for profit or harm, then that's immoral. If your goal is satire then all bets are off. I think people are just afraid to be deceived because AI removes skill from the equation and painting AI usage as immoral is their weak attempt to defend against it.[2023-12-06. : 6:22 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: Also, are you referring to my switch to Ultraviolet from NerdyTerdy? I remember folks didn't really approve of the change, still get called Nerdy around here heh absolutely. You can count me among those folks. But I understand it. It's a silly name only kids find funny. However to know that and still own it that would be the manliest move in my eyes.[2023-12-06. : 6:21 pm] NudeRaider -- UltravioletUltraviolet shouted: NudeRaider ah shoot, yeah I guess you're the main NR at this point, but I always call you Nude. For me, NR is nuclearrabbit lol Don't worry, most people call me Nude - and sometimes I am! nuclearrabbit can keep NR. [2023-12-06. : 5:40 am] da real donwano -- Society is not ready for the AI power we're being given. I'll die on that hill.[2023-12-05. : 6:04 pm] Zoan -- Like it's immoral either way imo to manipulate people falsely; just it's gonna be a lot more common to do it with AI[2023-12-05. : 6:02 pm] Zoan -- Like it's kinda just their art form. But with AI, any random dude who just wants to manipulate people for selfish reasons can use it instantly[2023-12-05. : 6:01 pm] Zoan -- I think everyone believes that people who can actually copy someone else's voice to such a degree that it's indistinguishable have to train for years to do that, and so they wouldn't necessarily use it for evil purposes[2023-12-05. : 5:58 pm] Ultraviolet -- I always thought it was kind of messed up to impersonate someone without their permission, but I guess that's artistic license for you. TBH I wasn't a troll on here in the beginning. I truly wanted to become a great map maker but I could never finish a damn project. Then for whatever reason (probably drugs in my teens) I got caught up in drama & became somewhat of a troll on this site & regret it. IDK how many accounts I went through but I'm 35 now & see how stupid I was as a kid.[2023-12-03. : 1:52 am] Ultraviolet -- Dungeon-MasterDungeon-Master shouted: Ultraviolet I read some of that stuff and cringed something fierce. This forum's the place I learned English, believe it or not. Haha, don't worry about it too much man, most of us have some pretty cringe stuff in our posting histories.
