[2011-7-15. : 12:55 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Yeah but devlin, you're a left coaster.
[2011-7-15. : 12:55 am]  Excalibur -- DevliN, I know where you sleep. Don't do this.
[2011-7-15. : 12:55 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Mind you, it's the dancing I like ratherthan the music. Most rap is terrible.
[2011-7-15. : 12:55 am]  DevliN -- I'm white and like hip-hop dance routines. :awesome:
[2011-7-15. : 12:55 am]  Excalibur -- Already doing it. I'll do my best to avoid you from now on. :D
[2011-7-15. : 12:54 am]  Jack[RCDF -- ;0
[2011-7-15. : 12:54 am]  Jack[RCDF -- K well you better start being ashamed then.
[2011-7-15. : 12:53 am]  Excalibur -- Well one of two things Jack: If you're white and like hiphop, I'm ashamed to know you. If you're not white and like hiphop, I just know we can't be friends. :3
[2011-7-15. : 12:53 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Luzz, yes, sorta. Play the map, get it from your map cache, unlock it by opening with an mpq editor. It's a bit of work to get it functioning again though.
[2011-7-15. : 12:53 am]  Tuxlar -- Also, Bill Clinton correctly answered 3 MLP trivia questions in an interview. :wut:
[2011-7-15. : 12:52 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Is that not irrelevant? U RACIST WHITE TRASH IMMA BEAT YOU WID MAH HOMIES
[2011-7-15. : 12:52 am]  Tuxlar -- science is not to blame
[2011-7-15. : 12:50 am]  Excalibur -- >Sees Jack's video camera uses post. >Athletic Sister, he's going to record 'hip-hop' >Wonders if Jack is white or not.
[2011-7-15. : 12:48 am]  [Riney]:] -- WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?
[2011-7-15. : 12:48 am]  [Riney]:] -- HELP MY BROTHER WATCHES MY LITTLE PONY D:<
[2011-7-15. : 12:47 am]  luzzotica -- Does any1 know if u can retrieve a map from battle.net if its locked?
[2011-7-15. : 12:12 am]  Jack[RCDF -- So I'm buying a vidya camera
[2011-7-15. : 12:10 am]  Tuxlar -- k.
[2011-7-15. : 12:10 am]  Tuxlar -- *CHICKEN christ
[2011-7-15. : 12:10 am]  Tuxlar -- CHECK FLUSHER :lmao:
[2011-7-15. : 12:10 am]  Tuxlar -- in other news, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHr7nWkIdsA
[2011-7-15. : 12:09 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Or just be poor. Why steal from someone who has nothing?
[2011-7-15. : 12:07 am]  Tuxlar -- *certain people, at least
[2011-7-15. : 12:07 am]  Tuxlar -- in some ways, the best security you can have is just not to piss people off :P
[2011-7-15. : 12:06 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Lawlz tux.
[2011-7-15. : 12:06 am]  Tuxlar -- but remember that the cancer cells that survive the chemo can be far worse than the rest
[2011-7-15. : 12:06 am]  Jack[RCDF -- America's going down yo
[2011-7-15. : 12:05 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Wow nzd to usd is 84 cents to the nzdollar.
[2011-7-15. : 12:05 am]  Jack[RCDF -- I think I'll buy a video camera.
[2011-7-15. : 12:04 am]  Jack[RCDF -- AND HIT THE DESK REPEATEDLY WID IT
[2011-7-15. : 12:04 am]  Jack[RCDF -- USE YER NOGGIN
[2011-7-15. : 12:04 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Naw bro
[2011-7-15. : 12:03 am]  TiKels --
[2011-7-15. : 12:03 am]  TiKels -- though, of course, this is all speculation, got any sources?
[2011-7-15. : 12:03 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Thanks :D
[2011-7-15. : 12:03 am]  TiKels -- it's actually a pretty elegant point
[2011-7-15. : 12:03 am]  Jack[RCDF -- So you still get security improvements.
[2011-7-15. : 12:02 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Mind you, it's the black hats that are in it for credit card and banking info that are turned away, not the hackers andcodemonkeys.
[2011-7-15. : 12:02 am]  TiKels -- ;D
[2011-7-15. : 12:02 am]  Tuxlar -- lol hipsters
[2011-7-15. : 12:02 am]  Jack[RCDF -- Yep yep
[2011-7-15. : 12:01 am]  TiKels -- it's kinda like a reacharound reasoning
[2011-7-15. : 12:01 am]  TiKels -- aah-aaaaahh I see clever point jack. So since tech savvy people/hipsters are into linux and tend to make less errors, it means that less hackers/crackers/codemonkeys are into doing what they do with it because they have a smaller yield
[2011-7-14. : 11:59 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- http://www.techdrivein.com/2010/08/ubuntu-probably-first-ever-linux-distro.html?m=1 intresting.
[2011-7-14. : 11:58 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Yeah but as I said, you're more safe, not 100% safe.
[2011-7-14. : 11:57 pm]  Tuxlar -- @Jack you only need one
[2011-7-14. : 11:56 pm]  Tuxlar -- @Sym
[2011-7-14. : 11:56 pm]  Tuxlar -- indeed
[2011-7-14. : 11:56 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Tikels, from a cracker's point of view this means that linux is more work to crack. So fewer people try to crack it, which means there are fewer sploits and 0-days released, which means that if you're running linux you're more safe.
[2011-7-14. : 11:51 pm]  Symmetry -- not necessarily either
[2011-7-14. : 11:51 pm]  Tuxlar -- well if you built a system that required users to be more savvy to use it, would that be the system being more secure or the users?
[2011-7-14. : 11:50 pm]  TiKels -- but what does that have to do with linux being secure?
[2011-7-14. : 11:44 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Most linux users are more skilled computer users than most windows users. Among the advantages of being a 'better user' is that you know not todownload and run strange binaries from the internets, and not activate services which are both a security risk and unnecessary.
[2011-7-14. : 11:43 pm]  TiKels -- I'm genuinely curious
[2011-7-14. : 11:43 pm]  TiKels -- I'm not trying to like... pick a fight.. just trying to understand what you're getting at
[2011-7-14. : 11:43 pm]  TiKels -- which is false ;o
[2011-7-14. : 11:42 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- You'll just generally be safer with linux than with windows.
[2011-7-14. : 11:42 pm]  TiKels -- I mean I might be looking into what you said a lil bit too much, but you said in an argument about security that "generally the users follow better security practices anyway, as they're that kind of user. " either that's kinda irrelevant or you're trying to promote that it is more secure because the users are smarter
[2011-7-14. : 11:42 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Sure, I'm not saying it's unbreakable.
[2011-7-14. : 11:42 pm]  Tuxlar -- but i suppose anything is going to be better than windows :P
[2011-7-14. : 11:41 pm]  Tuxlar -- generally speaking it is more secure, but when there is a sploit, it can be that much worse
[2011-7-14. : 11:38 pm]  Tuxlar -- yes but again, there's many different kinds of linux, and thus many different vectors for sploits
[2011-7-14. : 11:32 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Not just security through obscurity; linux is built more securely than windows, and generally the users follow better security practices anyway, as they're that kind of user.
[2011-7-14. : 11:30 pm]  Tuxlar -- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-14162649
[2011-7-14. : 11:26 pm]  Tuxlar -- in short, you're largely relying on security through obscurity
[2011-7-14. : 11:26 pm]  Tuxlar -- and there's many different kinds of linux too
[2011-7-14. : 11:26 pm]  Raitaki -- @Jack: My dad usually ignore minor rules as long as no one that would report the misdeeds/enforce the laws is around.
[2011-7-14. : 11:25 pm]  Tuxlar -- it also means those that do crack linux can go undetected and unpatched for quite some time
[2011-7-14. : 11:22 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Also, lower user use means that most crackers target windoze over linux, as there's more to get.
[2011-7-14. : 11:21 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Also rai I'm fairly sure you doing your dad's homework is illegal.
[2011-7-14. : 11:21 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Tux, and because patches for sploits are generally released faster, and because te way the file permissions work, malicious prograns can generally do less harm unless the user actually gives them permissions to do what they want. In that respect trojans are a danger.
[2011-7-14. : 11:01 pm]  MadZombie! -- well I'm not gonna pry
[2011-7-14. : 11:00 pm]  MadZombie! -- eh
[2011-7-14. : 11:00 pm]  MadZombie! -- dude wat
[2011-7-14. : 11:00 pm]  Raitaki -- @MZ: He keeps saying he doesn't have enough time to do all of them.
[2011-7-14. : 11:00 pm]  Tuxlar -- which can work for or against you, security-wise
[2011-7-14. : 10:59 pm]  MadZombie! -- can't he do it himself?
[2011-7-14. : 10:59 pm]  MadZombie! -- why
[2011-7-14. : 10:59 pm]  Tuxlar -- but simply the act of opening up the source code makes it far easier to find exploits to begin with
[2011-7-14. : 10:58 pm]  Tuxlar -- Linux is only perceived as secure because the code is typically open for review and exploits aren't typically as rigorously mapped out as Windows
[2011-7-14. : 10:57 pm]  Raitaki -- @MZ: Cuz he keeps telling me to. For about half a year.
[2011-7-14. : 10:57 pm]  Tuxlar -- FYI, Linux doesn't magically make things more secure
[2011-7-14. : 10:56 pm]  Raitaki -- ;_;
[2011-7-14. : 10:56 pm]  Raitaki -- .....So I write down "Healthcare organizations should simply set up a healthcare database, which are fairly secure" and word it some way it somehow spans 2 pages?
[2011-7-14. : 10:56 pm]  Tuxlar -- at least, not with your level of expertise
[2011-7-14. : 10:55 pm]  Tuxlar -- you're really not going to improve on them much beyond a few vaguely preventative measures
[2011-7-14. : 10:55 pm]  Tuxlar -- as i said, most database systems are fairly secure already
[2011-7-14. : 10:54 pm]  MadZombie! -- wh yare you doing your dads homework
[2011-7-14. : 10:49 pm]  Raitaki -- @Jack: You know what, forgot that part about making it inaccessible to random people or w/e. I just need some security measures >_>;
[2011-7-14. : 10:46 pm]  Raitaki -- Cuz I'm doing my dad's homework.
[2011-7-14. : 10:45 pm]  TiKels -- funny that raitaki brings this up because my mom just went to a meeting about the same topic
[2011-7-14. : 10:44 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- It is not possible to have an online-accessible database which only allows certain users to log in. It's possible to make it more difficult but there's always someone smarter than you, who will find a way. But step one would be to give each user an authenticator like what banks and battlenet 2 have. Next would be to use linux, and heavily restrict all users' access unless they have physical access to the server.
[2011-7-14. : 10:40 pm]  Raitaki -- @Jack: I don't want it totally inaccessible, I only want it to only provide access to the right people.
[2011-7-14. : 10:39 pm]  Raitaki -- *sighs* Time to rant about firewalls and restricting access and shit until I get 2 pages.
[2011-7-14. : 10:38 pm]  Raitaki -- .....Wtf.
[2011-7-14. : 10:37 pm]  O)FaRTy1billion -- You give me exclusive access and then anyone wanting to access it will have to feed the queries through me
[2011-7-14. : 10:37 pm]  Jack[RCDF -- Impossible.
[2011-7-14. : 10:36 pm]  Raitaki -- Database as in an online database that online certain authorized users supplied with passwords can access. Or more specifically, a healthcare database. Owned by a healthcare organization.
[2011-7-14. : 10:35 pm]  Tuxlar -- and remove that when not in use
[2011-7-14. : 10:35 pm]  Tuxlar -- or an external disk
