Files should only be linked if they are practically identical except for some tweaks or if they are a series. Examples: The probert the probe series, diplomancy 7.5 and 7.7, team arena and team arena speed x2, special ops and special ops insane.
What should not be linked: Cat and mouse jungle and cat and mouse winter. Hopefully you get the point. If not, feel free to ask someone before making a mistake, as the DLDB isn't so lenient on them.

Area 4 :: File Upgrade

Replaces file with a new file.
Useful to keep the file ID intact and the link more shareable.
Very useful to fix file if new file isn't all too different from original.
Disadvantages: Ratings might not be as applicable if bugs were fixed that made someone give it a poor rating.

Upgrades current file as a new file but keeps current files existance as an upgrade link.
Useful to reset comments, ratings, and mark the file as "new".
Disadvanatges: It can be ugly to have files only link to other files. Link is less shareable.

(I give all credit to Steam for making them, but I give myself credit for putting the sounds together and sounding like real reloads.)
