Week #3 mapping contest -- "Teamwork" Leeroy_Jenkin's judging notes In order of which they were played: >>>>>>>>1. 4Chan by Ultraviolet -Gameplay: 3/10 Frightfully similar to an evolve's game, with one difference. Pubbies didn't even like it. There are a few variations that steer this away from being a full-blown mass fest, although these variations end up making the pace of the game unbearably slow. -Originality: 2/10 A genre of game that's been done before, although better in the past. -Aesthetics: 7/10 As far as I can remember, there was nothing un-pleasing to the eye and the terrain was better than most of this genre. Nothing outstanding, so you get a solid 7. -Theme: 3/5 No actual teamwork, although you are technically on a team. -Completion: 5/5 Nothing seemed unfinished. -Overall: 20/40 >>>>>>>>2. Tower Escape by Azrael.Wrath -Gameplay: 5/10 The game starts off somewhat entertaining and energetic as you race the other team. Although eventually, things become slightly repetitive. A major advantage this map has on the other maps is that b.net pubbies are not confused by it, nor are they bored by it. -Originality: 9/10 This map is about as original as it gets. The gravity system, combustion chamber and valves were all extrememly original. -Aesthetics: 7/10 As far as I can remember, there was nothing un-pleasing to the eye and the terrain was better than most of this genre. Nothing outstanding, so you get a solid 7. -Theme: 5/5 Required teamwork, which was the theme. -Completion: 5/5 Nothing seemed unfinished. -Overall: 31/40 >>>>>>>>3. Blind by Gidoza -Gameplay: 5/10 With a few tweaks, this could be a somewhat enjoyable map. Unfortunately, the way this is set-up makes it b.net pubbie un-friendly and almost impossible to host a game. The most frustrating flaw had to be the over-lord vote system. When one idiot wouldn't vote, we would all just sit there TYPING IN ALL CAPS LOCK to get them to HURRY THE HELL UP AND VOTE. Eventually, this led to people leaving and another rm. This happened 5 times. With a countdown timer for the vote or something like that, this could be easily avoided. As far as the gameplay when we were actually able to get a game going, I would say the sheer frustration outweighed the mild enjoyment of capturing a flag. Also, with the amount of effort taken to get an item, it would be expected that they yield a more impressive result. -Originality: 8/10 This game is very original. You had the right idea, but it was poorly implemented. -Aesthetics: 5/10 The text had ugly and hard to read colors and the menu-system area was ugly. -Theme: 5/5 This map is the definition of teamwork. -Completion: 5/5 Nothing seemed unfinished. -Overall: 28/40
