Then get another Xb360, and another TV. Voila, SPLIT SCREEN.
Oh! That's would I should do with the $2k I had sitting around.

Split screen always annoyed me.
Online play is definitely the way of the future.
Though split screen should be kept for those rare ocassions your friends get grounded and you go over to theirs, you should really move forward with the times and accept that most games will simply just be online since with stuff like XBox that's what sells...
Why can't I have both? Halo shows that online split screen can happen. I love it. Whenever I have friends over, we always play Halo, even though I'd much rather play The Orange Box.

I totally agree.

Split-screen online with guests is great, I'm not sure why everyone doesn't do it...COD4 for example, could just add one or two guests playlists, Deathmatch and Search and Destory/Headquarters.

CoD4 is rather weird about split screen. It supports split screen, but not online. And how fun is it to play a bunch of maps designed for 8 people with 2-4? It just doesn't make sense.

Its more of a market strategy. They want all of the game owners to buy their 'live products.

Ok, you don't have to advertise that it has split-screen though. Just put it in the game.

Weird thing to say on a forum thats about a video game.

I think splitscreen or local multiplayer was at best when it was a pretty casual game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros. Nowadays, games like CoD4 can intimidate new gamers.

Regardless, I think FPS isn't meant for splitscreen. Well, if all players are on the same team, sure, but in a versus match, you might as well turn radar on, since screen peek is inevitable. I like what Halo 3 does, in that it brings splitscreen on Live. Too bad I don't like the gameplay.

Pretty much any game that has fog is going to be a joke on splitscreen. Instead I would get games that use shared screen. Fighting games for example have nothing to hide. Racing games also aren't influenced by splitscreen.

I pretty much only play local multiplayer with friends at my dorm. We play Smash Bros. and Call of Duty 4 and Soul Calibur 4. Other than that, I really don't play splitscreen too often. I'd rather play something that's meant to be with people; board games.

The 360 has given me online play which was a huge jump for me in gaming. And since then, it's been what I think is the best form of online play. The controller just feels so natural in my hands and doesn't cramp like a mouse and keyboard.

So again, just pick the right games for splitscreen like Smash, CoD4, Soul Calibur or Forza.

As for gaming being social or not, well I'm not too social when I play. But why does that matter again? Are we afraid of stereotypes?

I dunno, I just prefer playing games in multiplayer, and with friends, and there's just something different about playing splitscreen as compared to just online. If I had a big group of people to play with, I'd rather have a LAN party with just a few TVs than just go into matchmaking. That's just me, though.

But every FPS is better with a keyboard and mouse by default, so your argument is invalid.

Actually, it's not. I cite Bioshock as an example.

Actually, it's not. (and yes I've played it on both 360 and PC, 360 first)

Only for offline co-op. Online you get your own screen.

Fable II's offline co-op should be split screen. That sharing the camera deal is just b/s. I am always getting trapped between a random object and the side of the TV screen because the other player is 10 feet ahead of me and he is pulling the camera with him.

chuiu did not know Fable II had offline co-op. chuiu is going to be doing that very soon...

chuiu thanks you for this information.

Just work together better. That's like Gauntlet Legends, the best co-op game in EXISTENCE. EVER. :P

Yes.

But yeah, we got it down pretty good. Back button for the win of course.
The co-op is ok, but the second player has to choose a generic in-game character; good, neutral, or evil of either sex. Their karma will not change their appearance either.
My offline co-op character is a good female with a; big hammer, a musket, and a soul as black as the Ace of Spades!

Also this.

Gauntlet II > Gauntlet Legends.

I mean, Legends didn't even have "RED VALKYRIE SHOT THE FOOD", what's a Gauntlet game without that?
