I'll buy one and torrent the rest, it's a bit ridiculous to expect me to buy 2 other games just so I can see the entire campaign.
Why don't you actually wait and see what they're going to make before deciding that. You have absolutely no idea what the other two games will contain and you're already saying you're going to pirate them. When has blizzard wronged you? Never
Blizzard wronged me when they decided to put sc on the shelf for 10 years. They wronged me when they patched euds. They wronged me when they released 1.15.3 w/o bothering to fix zerg mineral hack. They wronged me when they splitup b.net. They wronged me when they canceled ghost. They wronged me when they snubbed sen/maplantis from Q&A's. They wronged me when they threw out the original SC team. They wronged me when they threw out the D2 team. They wronged me.

Starcraft would've been dead without the map making community. We deserve better!

Blizzard is seriously shitting us. But like others said, this IS StarCraft; This may actually be the first game that I will buy a legitimate copy of. All of the games I have on my PC are either freeware or pirated

I don't entirely disagree, but I think that groups such as the Korean gaming leagues have lent more to Starcraft's longevity than to the majority of the "mapmakers" at this site that don't actually make maps anymore.

Thanks to people like you, this is why developers are starting to shift to shitty consoles instead of quality pc games. If find a good game which you play a lot, buy it. Period.

I get the impression I'm more of a WoW nerd than everyone else here.. and trust me, it has definitely changed to worse and worse to the point where they are doing things they swore they wouldn't do. I saw one link from a blizz official in February posting, "if all we cared about was making money, we'd sell gold, allow botting, allow PvE->PvP transfers, etc. etc."... and ya, they definitely allow PvE->PvP transfers now. You can get triple experience if you invite a friend and create a new character to level with him. They have completely sold out WoW, which isn't news to anyone, I think.

Now, I had always thought that with WoW as such a money machine and sellout, they wouldn't dare do that to Starcraft. They can't. MMO's are built for giving people free-bees and charging for them (WoW Trading Card Game cards for in-game items O.o), but for an RTS, they would just have to charge extra for the same amount of content. Either by 3 $50 boxes or charging for battle.net, anything they do will actually decrease money making in the long run, because RTS gamers want to see a good game that's not as expensive as MMO's and not as time consuming.

I thought before now that they would most certainly recognize this difference, but the billion dollars a year from WoW subscriptions might be clouding their judgments. Especially after the activision merger, this could only be a push by the company onto the designers to make money, at least, and hopefully the quality of the game will not deteriorate. If it really does, I wouldn't expect much out of blizzard anymore... once you go from exploiting your good games for money to only caring about making money, you're games aren't good anymore, even if every single game you've ever made has been good. I still have faith in them, though :)
Any thoughts?

And ya, Korean SC would have made SC last even if SC mapmaking wasn't around ;)

True, but I'm saying map makers in general, not in this site. There are many korean map making communities that I found over the last few years. Interesting enough, most get stolen and Engrishized and are massively popular in USEast and USWest.

If all three versions have b.net does this mean all three will have a different cd key?

The game are coming out a year apart. That means spending $50/year for 3 years for 36 missions, which is more than StarCraft 1 even contained. I do agree that is kind of cheap on Blizzard, but if they are making 3 stand-alone games that connect the story together, and make it fantastic, I'm all for it.

I've been hiding in a hole playing Team Fortress 2, lol. Can someone sum up BlizzCon 2008 for me? Just all of the main details and points, I'm looking up the rest myself. I'd really like to play Diablo 1 + 2 before the 3rd comes out...it looks interesting and I'm looking into it now.

36 is a nice made up number, I'd like to see a source for that. After watching an interview...

SOURCE: http://www.starcraft-source.com/index.php?cmd=media&sec=video&bcpid=&bclid=1740033618&bctid=1851181479

I can say that the games will have 26-30 NON-LINEAR missions. Meaning you'll probably play through 10-12 and then beat single player. Then you'll have to go back and play the 'alternate' missions to see everything. The development time for TFT was one year, do you really think its going to be the same for SC2? I would imagine a year and a half is more realistic. Also, they aren't standalone games. They are expansions. They're the equivalent of BW to SC or TFT to WC3.

Summary of Blizzcon:

D3:
New class, Wizard, looks pimp (lasers, force lightning, blink, magic missile (lol), and protoss mothership)
Being considered for consoles (wouldn't be that hard either, its a hack/slash game).

SC2:
Trilogy penis suck.
Nomad -> Nightwing or whatever the hell lame name they gave it. It looks slightly better (I think I'm the only one who actually liked the old Nomad design, it looked kinda like a shipyard which reflected its purpose as turret maker)
Zerglings still have wings
Marines still have shields
Observer mode has everything you would want in it.
VODs make it impossible to distinguish zerglings from creep, hydralisks from roaches from lurkers, etc etc etc
Beta will be in 2009
Release date of summer/fall 09 more realistic

WoW
lol is this game dead yet? fuck who still plays this garbage

Thanks.

I thought I read 36 on Neoseeker, maybe I'm wrong. And I guess I'm getting confused because some are saying stand-alone games (like expansions...but since they're saying they will all be bigger than Brood War that's what I mean). 10-12, that really sucks.

My guess is that you could probably play through 20-25 if you felt like doing a lot of missions that didn't contribute to story (for gaining money, etc), and only 10-12 would be really story-driven.

It sounds as if they are just adding a ton of little side-quest missions to the main game. Basically what KK said.
