Unless you've been hiding in a hole, you no doubt know of Blizzcon, and that its going on right now.
Blizzard announced the Starcraft II Trilogy. They're basically going to release the SC2 story in 3 separate installments. As far as I know each one will have some new content and is a totally new campaign for each race. The first one we're getting is the Terran version, which is supposed to span about 36 missions (original SC was about 30 missions). Thus in total the entire trilogy should be more than 100 missions altogether.
The mutliplayer however I hear is not going to change. They want to make the competitive SC consistent right from the beginning so if you don't really care about the campaign or content that comes with it, you can just buy one copy I'm guessing and play online with all your buddies on SEN. These are not expansion packs, but stand alone games they claim.
Each version comes with Battle.net 2.0, the features on this are sketchy but its apparently going to be a whole lot better in terms of playing with your buddies, maybe match making and some other things. I'm not too sure on the details of this either. It's still free so there's no need to worry.
There's been some complaining on the interwebs accusing blizzard of "triple dipping". I've never known Blizzard to screw us over on content, and we're talking about Blizzard here not someone like EA. If they have a game well worth 50 dollars to sell us, thats what they're going to sell it for.
Oh and also, they're going to tell the SC story in first person as the main character. For terran you will play as raynor, zerg as kerrigan, and protoss as zeratul.

So all are three games are same, and just have different singleplayer missions?
good to know

I'll buy one and torrent the rest, it's a bit ridiculous to expect me to buy 2 other games just so I can see the entire campaign.

Why don't you actually wait and see what they're going to make before deciding that. You have absolutely no idea what the other two games will contain and you're already saying you're going to pirate them. When has blizzard wronged you? Never.
Comeon. You played starcraft for 10 years now, I think you got more than your moneys worth now, you somehow think you won't for SC2? Geez.

While I have enjoyed the game, I feel that if I'm still paying fifty dollars, and it's not like I'm actually stealing anything they made, just copying, so while it's not helping them, it doesn't hurt them either.
Not to mention, I figure they have all the money they need from WoW, there's no need to be charging so much. If all three are fifty dollars, I will torrent the other two, however, if there becomes a way to just buy the campaign part for cheaper, I'll buy it, but my guess is they will charge full price.

i just think about only buying 1 game, because i like multiplayer, and i wont pay so much money just for 30 new scenarios :l
you can better make some for yourself with the (grat) map editor

You'd be cutting two thirds of the profit. Sounds kinda like hurting to me.
As for me, I'll buy them, if they space out the releases a little. I kind of have about $400 sitting, waiting to be spent on gaming.

This reminds me of making World of Starcraft I, running out of steam, and renaming it World of Starcraft: Terran.

This idea is gay. I wouldn't want to play over 10 missions for each race, let alone 36! And first person is fucking retarded.

I'm obviously hiding in a hole
36 missions for each race? That sounds fantastic! However, I think if they first should split the game up in different parts, they could as well make a multiplayer-only edition as well. Then they could also make a pack with all three campaigns and the multiplayer with the price of an ordinary game, while the seperate editions cost 25% of an ordinary game.
I will probably buy each one of them. I mean, it's Starcraft we're talking about...
ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO
Way to suck away our money
Anyway, I kinda like the idea even when you'll have to spend triple the money
fuck you all
Relatively ancient and inactive
I don't really play Campaigns and find them boring. SCII may change that, but I rather doubt it.

If we don't get the same amount of units in Multiplayer or we are blocked from somethings, Blizzard is totally fucking is over. I won't mind the $175+ w/ taxes if they add old units from SC into the map editor.

Why and why? If you don't want to play more than ten missions, you don't really care about the plot, and therefore only need to get one installment for the multiplayer. Also, I don't like writing in anything other than first person. You can only get more depth out of omniscient third person, but letting the reader know what everyone is thinking kind of gives away some... Suspense, I guess.
In short, if you don't care about the plot, just buy one installment and don't complain about what you don't play. If you don't like the ways they convey the plot, again, just get one installment, then look up the plot on the internet. It's that simple.[/rantbywriter]

As long as they all come out at the sametime, I'll be happy. They will most likely have a Starcraft II Battle Chest as-well. Which is what I'll probably get. All 3 campaigns, and battle.net in one, for a great price.

That was IskatuMesk. I honestly doubt they will and it will be a huge mistake if they do.
EDIT: Then again I could be wrong:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/11/blizzards-wilson-some-battle-net-features-to-be-monetized/"We are looking to monetize Battle.Net so that we get to keep making these games and updating features," said Wilson. "We kind of have to."
BULL. SHIT. Blizzard is milking us for even MORE money.

I just saw an interview with Dustin Browder on a korean site, and they say each race addition pack will add units to the overall gameplay so that it will be like an expansion pack in the strictest sense- and a must buy to play more balanced games..
