Sooo.. Umm... Question!

I have the weirdest question ever.

How is it possible, that when you guys do this terrain stuff, you make all this cool terrain blends, but in SCMDraft, the block you can use for such is 1x1, and you can't select more at a time. How do you not get frustrated and bored of how long it takes to do?

You just put up with it. It doesn't actually take /that/ long. The Copy-Paste terrain function helps.

As he said, Copy-Paste in terrain helps a ton, there's no way I would terrain without it, also, you can select odd shapes by using Shift in copy and paste, instead of just making parallelograms.

But in the tileset index you can't really select more than one at a time...

I'm probably an exception in that I almost never use copy-paste, I prefer simply making everything myself.
It doesn't take that long to find tiles, and similar ones are usually right next to one another.
If you think terraining is such tedious work, you probably haven't triggered systems yet.

You're on. (Moderator, KEEP THIS OPEN).

Now, to avoid annoying terrain features:
Make strips of ISOM terrain and use them for Copy/Paste.

If not, deal with what you have to do.

lol!
And this is why I've never understood group maps where the work is split 'evenly' between terraining and triggering

Yeah that's definitely a problem with SCM Draft, unfortunately, it's creator, SI, is very inactive and has stopped really working on it. The best way to save time is to use the Isom tool to get your basic layout, copy and paste to do the larger sections that come from other objects, and then going back over it later and doing the small touch-ups with the Tileset Index, if you are trying to use tiles off of doodads, you can make the doodad into terrain by selecting it, right clicking, and doing Convert to Terrain, this should allow you to copy and paste tiles from it.

Without patiance, you can't be a good mapper.

I suffer from a severe lack of patiance. :(

yeah, patience is a mapping virtue... not so much practical use in real life i dont think... lol

Deal with it. Its boring, but you can save time by making "chunks" and copy/paste large "chunks" of several blocks.

Also, the 'subtile' brush makes things easier.

The key to terraining is doing thematically similar areas all at the same time. If your map has lots of fortresses, do one really good one, then simply copy paste parts in to the next one.

StarForge ftw anyway. ;P I'm a weirdo.
But how do people have the patience?
The same way anyone here does. Only, like, 1/10 as extreme in many cases. Terrain blenders actually have a lot of advantages ( if a few dis-... ) going for them, over pixel artists.
And Hell, how about the people that creates dozen upon dozens of similar or near-identical triggers manually? Atleast terraining's not nearly so monotonous.

Pixel artists do pixel per pixel. Copy and paste, voila. You have an infinite pallete.

Terrain artists do 4x4, 16 pixel blocks. Blocks are fun.

Just here for the activity... well not really

What IS subtile anyway

Subtile gives you all the tiles that are used in the same way, like if you click a cliff with it(ctrl click) it shows all the subtiles, or all the other cliff tiles that could replace that one.

thx... I also didn't know that before :>

btw... are there any tiles for the creep edges?? not the complete 1x1 squared.. jsut those where the creep ends

Creep edges are actually images, that's how they manage to make it overlap terrain, although I might be technically wrong about that, you'd have to ask Farty to get a perfectly correct answer.

EDIT: Nvm, I asked Farty for you:

edges are grp files
