Yeah, we had a huge wind storm from the hurricane some reason here in Ohio and the power was down all evening. The PC was on and it went off once, and my brother turned it back on. Turned off again around five minutes later and didn't come back. Now the power is back and it refuses to start. I have tried everything, and I KNOW I have to have the power supply replaced. So I'm going to get a 500W Antec Basiq. Problem is I just bought a decent graphics card to use and now it serves no purpose. I'm going to return it and buy a better, higher-end one...

You can't guarantee that anything will fix it. If there was a massive surge and you don't have a surge protector, many things could be burned out.

In the future during power outages, unplug your computer and/or throw the master switch on the PSU. Or, better yet, you can buy a surge protector.

Thing is I have a surge protector.

Anyways I don't really upgrade the computer all that much. Is there any problems with having more wattage in a power supply than needed for your computer?

Try plugging it directly into the wall and ignore the surge protector. Maybe it somehow got damaged.

Yeah, I tried that and a bunch of other stuff reccomended on the HP site. No luck.

Also, when you get a power supply are all of the cables already plugged into the power supply, all ready to plug into your computer's motherboard and parts?

Did you try leaving your computer completely unplugged for awhile?

But first open up your case and go through the basic checklist (I had to do this when my computer didn't turn on after cleaning the case):

-Does the motherboard's standby light come on?

Yes?
-Do the fans come on when the power button is pressed?
-Are the wires from the case power switch to the motherboard's front panel pins properly connected?

No?
-Is the 20/24 pin ATX power connector snugly fitted?
-Are all the other power cables firmly attached to the motherboard?
-Is there a voltage across two wires where there should be? (If you have a voltmeter, you can check this)

You mean when the computer if off (like it is) is there a standby light flashing on the motherboard? I didn't see one...the only light flashing is on the back of the power supply when it's plugged in.

There should be an LED on the motherboard called the "standby light" or something similar - this should be in your motherboard manual.

When the power supply master switch is turned ON and the power supply is properly connected, the standby light on the motherboard should come on. The computer is actually off, but the motherboard will have power.
