well, i'm thinking about editing the existing unit grps, but the problem is, there's about 200 frames (marine). is there any faster way to edit them without doing all the frames 1 by 1?

None.

The sword and the faith

I do GRP editing, and the basic answer is no, there isnt. However i use only paint.

I think Syphon knows a way with photoshop, but i wouldnt know anything about it myself.

excalibur, what do you extract the bmps with? Retro? I tried using retro and Grp edit and I tryed copy and pasting things from the pictures with paint but it never turns out.

you have to have run length encoding for the grp to turn out correctly

Or you can use SF's GRPConv, or GRPEdit. Don't use Retro; it sucks. GRPConv can export all frames in one image, which should make life easier for recoloring or other similar tasks. I've never used GRPEdit, but I hear it's pretty good.

well i never really edit more than a few frames, since i usually edit buildings, so retrogrp works fine for now - if i decide to edit units, then i'll use something else

hmm i just tried retro grp again, copy and pasting worked fine, and no mess ups. Its just purple for the player color instead of pink

You can try 3D modeling programs like blender or 3Dmax. You just have to make one model and let the lighting and camera and animate.

3d modeling programs would seem almost a necessity for building new animated units from scratch. Photo editors such as photoshop would seem ideal for editing an existing .grp. Editing and Creating are 2 different things.

Is there ANYBODY currently in the moding community that actually builds .grp's from models? I only know of Adam Cassara's imported 3dmax models for his Open Rebellion mod. Building a unit (non-building) from scratch w/ just a photo editor seems very tuff and would require some gosu vision/artwork, but ppl have done it.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

I made a couple of units with modelling.

Not so fancy as ORTC's units nor ITAS or any other mod with models.
I'm still learning though.
But yes I have made some.

Oh, there's a couple of people over at Warboards. AqoTrooper has some amazing 3d models he's made, and U-238 also has some nice models. I think there's a few other modders out there...
