I chose Vista. For some reason all my programs run MUCH better on Vista than they ever did on XP.

For example Crysis.
On XP I couldn't set the graphics over Medium without getting major lag. But once I upgraded to Vista, without any mods to hardware Crysis now runs on Very High with hardly any lag.

Everything seems to run so much better now that I switched to Vista.

Vista FTW.

I shall quote myself from another thread, this is what running Vista is like (Particularly when first installed):

(User is attempting to run an installer)
"Are you sure you want to run this program? You know you should only run programs that you know are safe and that you have run before."
Yes.
"WINDOWS HAS DETECTED A FILE OPERATION. DID YOU START THIS, PITIFUL MORTAL?!"
Yes.
"Would you like the file operation to complete? You know you never finish these kinds of programs!"
Yes.
"WIndOws FIrewaLL has Detected YoU has Opened A PROGRAM!!! IT COULD BE FROM THE GOVERNMENT TRYING TO HACK INTO UR BRAIN! I WILL BLOCK IT FOR YOU!!!! DO YOU WANT ME TO UNBLOCK?!"
Unblock.
"WINDOWS HAS DETECTED A FILE OPERATION! NONE SHALL PASS MY EVERLIVING EYE!"
Let it pass.
(File operation requires creation of a new folder in My Documents)
"WINDOWS HAS DETECTED ANOTHER FILE OPERATION. I TIRE OF YOU, MERE MORTAL!"
It's okay, let it run.
"WINDOWS CANNOT ALLOW NON-MICROSOFT PROGRAMS TO CREATE NEW FOLDERS HERE, IT IS AGAINST TEH RULES."
Install at Desktop.
"You have alot of Items on your Desktop! You need to clean them up before you log off!"

Like I said in the first thread, I have yet to see one of those messages (yes, I know some of those are jokes). So it has to be something you are doing, not Vista.

My god, that was so hard to find! First people complain that Windows isn't secure enough, now they complain that it's too secure. Vista was made with the low-mid range users in mind and added that for extra security, it can be turned off with a simple click...

You know, they still didn't manage to fix the time remaining in Vista... Mac has it right, why can't windows?

Just Here For The Pie

I like to think Vista is all looks nothing else.

Other than that, I once tried helping my friend find some files on his new computer that had Vista. I was so f*cking lost.

Urmom, I actually already learned about UAC when I was trying to get Starforge working on Vista, but my point still stands: Why the fuck is this kind of shit necessary? It's just going to turn off people who don't have deep knowledge about computers and people who do will just turn that stupid shit off.

Here is the philosophy of Vista, told in the story of a car:

"Hey, we need a REALLY FAST CAR!"
"Yeah, let's start with a REALLY HEAVY CHASIS, made out of PURE STEEL that can seat TWELVE PEOPLE!"
"Yeah, and we're gonna need like, a V12!!!!"
"Fuck yeah!"
"Yeah, we'll turbo-charge the engine cause that adds like another two tons!"
"FUCKING A!"
"Hey guys, why not use a fast engine and a light body?"
"FUCK NO!"

Hey, Vista has faster processing speed! IF YOU HAVE FASTER PROCESSING SPEED AND A SYSTEM THAT SUCKS UP MORE CPU PERFORMANCE IT BALANCES THE FUCK OUT.

I don't find it bothersome; I leave it on and even have it passworded. I only see it when I'm doing something that affects more than just my user. Of course, I've customized my system in various ways, though. Like I've turned off automatic installer detection, because I don't like Vista choosing to elevate a program without the program requesting it. I prefer to make my own decision about whether an installer needs to run with admin privileges. There are some programs that, for compatibility reasons, will just work better if installed somewhere other than Program Files, and when I don't install there I often try to run the installer with just regular access.

Oh, btw, both of those settings I mentioned do require manual tweaking of the registry settings if you are not using Vista Business or higher (I'm using Ultimate). Those have the group policy editor, which gives access to various different settings like that.

Vista SP1 is barely slower than XP in terms of gaming performance, and is better feature wise also. As for stability, I've had 3 windows crashes all related to overclocking and driver instability due to overclocking.
