It's difficult to distinguish posts on this site when everyone has the same avatar and no signatures. It's also immensely idiotic to force people to post for weeks just to get a little picture that lets people ID them at a glance.

I know, take the time to read screen names, but it's a problem caused by a totally unnecessary, and frankly, stupid way to do things. If you're going to have minerals, they should not determine when you can upload avatars. Put an automatic waiting period in or something, but this stuff sucks.

aka idmontie

Maybe IP will allow everyone to use the Hack later on? And why do we start out with NEGATIVE minerals? I guess it can distinguish between a N00B and an elite member, but still.

Total agreement with Wilhelm.

I think that making you purchase signatures and titles makes sense, but I agree that not having an avatar makes it annoying to tell who's posting.

The ultimate problem is that this forces people to use the forums AS AN END to themselves. The point of this website is to post maps and resources to aid mapmaking, not to participate in this community. Some of the best mapmakers are the people who DON'T post constantly on this site. Unless IP wants to punish people who post maps but don't actively participate in the forums.

The whole mineral system just encourages the lackadaisic attitude this site has had for years. I'm sorry if this offends you, but this is supposed to be a website geared towards mapmaking, not towards arguments over the Middle East or which Halo game is the best.

If it is geared towards mapmaking then why do signatures and avatars even matter? Reading a screen name should not be a problem, I don't see why you're making it out to be.

While the entire mineral system isn't stupid (it can be used for fun), I have to say I don't like forcing mineral gains for avatars/sigs.

Reading a screen name is a lot more work than parsing an avatar, believe it or not.

I'm just trying to say that I think if he thinks SEN should be so centered on mapmaking then avatars and signatures are hardly something that deserves much attention.

While a small difference, they do make things easier. Map making may conflict with political debate and random forum games, in that they both take time, but map making and using-well-made-websites go together, as the latter frees up more time and less confusion which helps the former. The time taken to make such a topic and bring it to the attention of administrators is also quite small.

Perhaps the people who do not want minerals, but do want avatars and sigs could have the option to disable minerals, and get the stuff that used to be default, but none of the extra stuff that you get from the shop.

What does the dldb have anything remotely to do with something such avatars, signatures, and titles?
Or tutorials.

Nothing? That's right. It's pretty much a forum thing. What is minerals? Pretty much a forum thing.
There's always this:
http://www.staredit.net/?p=settings&area=misc
I fully expect people to use it.

That already exists (read above).

We live in a society.

I still say free avatars. :/

Also, don't expect posting to forever be the only viable way to get minerals. That's going to change in the future.

Let's cover the negative minerals from a mathematical standpoint. Let's say you start with 0. This means 200 must be added to the cost of every item for it to cost the same price under both systems. Now, for each ADDITIONAL item from a 0 start point, it's going to cost you 200 more each item.
800 (earned) - 200 (start point) - 200 (title) - 200 (signature) - 200 (random item #2976) = 0
800 (earned) - (200 + 200 = 400 title) + (200 + 200 = 400 signature) = Shit, I can't afford random item #2976.

Maybe more games.
Perhaps CONTENT SUBMISSION (tutorials, files, reviews, etc.)

Yay for games!
I would actually like to start writing reviews when everything starts up.

Not automatic minerals for content subscription...
I don't want noobs spamming the dldb for minerals :dontgetit:

But for reviews, maybe a "this review deserves some damn minerals" system... and then we'll look at it and be like "hell yeahz."

I didn't mention "automated"...

As for reviews, you mean what I already had partially coded when 4.1 was around. :P

Getting 10 minerals per map you upload would be an incentive to share the maps you have.

But first, we need a DLDB :P

The mineral system makes sense for signatures but not avatars.

Avatars are used so you can easily tell who is who by the image they have under their name, since these forum tables aren't so great it's hard to read the name so avatars are needed.

Signatures however are more so for advertising things, whether it's "I think this picture is funny" or "I like the white stripes" but they don't make it easier to tell who is who. So I think signatures should cost a certain amount. You gain minerals by posting in any forums that allow discussion or where you can help or request for help. So you don't (or at least, shouldn't) get minerals in Null, but you do in Games, Discussion Forums, Map Making Progress, Map Making help etc. And if the greatest map makers don't post a lot, well I doubt signatures are a big deal for them.
