Death Counters

For one of my newer maps, which is a remake of an older map to which is a secret, I want to implicate three different levels of difficulty. Easy - 30 lives/slowest spawn speed, Medium - 20 lives/normal spawn rate, and Hard - 10 lives/fastest spawn rate. I planed on using death counters and setting different add speeds for each level. Easy - +1, Medium +3, and Hard +5. I wanted to just use one set of creation triggers that will be set to exactly 15. Now this will mean each will have to run at different amounts of time for it to equal 15. Easy - 15 times, Medium - 5 times, and Hard - 3 times.

Now that you understand this, I wanted to know if that will be too fast for the Hard level. I wanted to just use one trigger with a set amount, but now I think I will have to have different sets of time for each of them. What do you think?

Perhaps you should multiply all DC amounts by ten. Then, for hard, you could make it 25 or 35 instead of just 3.

What would I then have the Creation triggers for? I want to only have one trigger that creates the units for each of the levels an a set exact amount for the death counter. If I have it for any amount It will go too fast for Hard or too slow for Easy.

My Method:
Easy - +1 @15 = 15x
Medium - +3 @15 = 5x
Hard - +5 @15 = 3x

Which one do you want me to multiply by ten? The addition triggers or the exact value for each of the levels.

All the DCs can be multiplied by ten or even one hundred, the conditions, everything. This will give you more room for error. You can have 1.5 instead of 1, or even 1.75 if you multiply it all by 100.

So if you think 3 DC is too fast, you can make it 3.5 (35). I'm not giving you advice on balance, but telling you a way you could fine-tune it more.

I know what you mean now. Instead of having it in the "tens" place make everything to the "hundredths" place, sort of like a decimal. :D I get it in some way but can you explain how I would set up the addition triggers and the conditions for the creation trigger?

Condition: Easy Picked
Effect: Subtract [10] of [DELAY]
Preserve

Condition: Moderate Picked
Effect: Subtract [20] of [DELAY]
Preserve

Condition: Hard Picked
Effect: Subtract [30] of [DELAY]
Preserve

Spawn Trigger
Condition: 0 Deaths of [DELAY]
Effect: [Spawn]
Effect: Set [DELAY] to [GENERIC AMOUNT (say 300)]

Ok, thanks now I understand it. :D I actually think that this would be a good idea. I am afraid though that the extremes, Easy and Hard, will either happen too slow or too fast...

That's what testing is for. ;)

And multiplying by 100 or 1000, for extreme fine-tuning.

I will try the 100 first, then if worst comes to worst, I might have to change the ratio between each of the different difficulties.

EX: Instead of it being Easy = 1, Medium = 3, Hard = 5, I might just change it to: Easy = 2, Medium = 4, Hard = 6.

I also like the idea of instead of adding to get a value, subtracting, I will have to use the at least or at most for these. I will try different methods and different combinations to see what works the best for my given situation. :D
