I have an .iso image that I want to make into files. I've downloaded about a billion DVD/CD burner things in an attempt to get a program to do this for me. They can burn a .iso to a disc, convert files into a .iso, write files to a disc, get a .iso from a disc, but none of them seem to be able to take .iso and just freaking unpack it.
My Macbook Pro had a way you could do this. You open the Disk Utility, bring up the .iso, and there's an option to do exactly this. I know this is an immense achievement of software engineering, but surely there must be some program that I don't need to pay $19.99 for that does something along these lines.
I'm about ready to shoot all the developers that made a .iso handling program that doesn't do this. So, does anyone know any sort of free program for Windows I can get to do this?
None.
try winrar, i read on a forum it works. honestly though, I googled "unpack iso" and it came up with a shitload of solutions. JFGI
this too shall pass
WinRAR should work. I haven't done this in a while, but MagicISO worked for me. There are more than likely tons of solutions as Praetor mentioned.
None.
Simple solution;
Open up winrar. File > Open archive (Ctrl+o). Select iso. Should work for you, as that's how I did it.
None.
IsoBuster is yet another utility designed for this.
None.
I never really googled "unpack .iso." I used "convert .iso", ".iso to files", "decompile .iso", ".iso converter", etc.
I guess unpack is the magic word.
Edit: Actually, praetor, I doubt you clicked on most of the links you got from Google. Most of them were for MagicIso, which absolutely doesn't work for me (it was one of the programs I tried before coming here). I don't have Winrar and I don't want to buy it, which is what most of the other links wanted me to do.
Thanks to everyone who recommended programs. ISOBuster worked for me. However, are there any OS programs for this? ISOBuster and all the failed programs I tried keep telling me to buy stuff.
Edit: Actually, ISOBuster likes to work some of the time under the free trial. Let me reiterate my desires:
1. Unpack .iso
2. Be free and full, not a trial
3. Preferably Open Source
4. Needs to actually work

None.
You don't have to buy WinRAR. Also, 7zip is free.
None.
Winrar is a never ending trial that tells you to remember to register it after 40 days of use, but has no mechanisms to check if you did. 7zip is the open-source counterpart.
tits
Just regular IsoBuster is free. IsoBuster Pro is the one that is not free.
None.
You probably want to mount it. Microsoft Windows XP can do this, but you need to download a program from Microsoft which is unsupported.
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/620/xp_small_free_way_to_use_and_mount_images_iso_files_without_burning_them Link and tutorial is on that page.
Alternately, you could do what most people are suggesting, and use an archive manager to open it.
None.
Daemon toolz, mounts to a Virtual Drive. .iso's are normally CD Images, and if you want them to be read LIKE a cd, hey, use this. ;o
If not, set yer autorun to Open folder and View Files, and itll pop right open.
