Ive got a trigger that creates and then removes a Dark Swarm anywhere on the map. However, the swarm never appears. I know you can make preplaced ones dissappear, but I also thought you could create new ones with triggers? Am I wrong in believing this? Also, how does this apply to scanner sweep, disruption field etc etc?
None.
You can only create units that you can preplace in staredit.
None.
If you want swarms you'd have to make defilers use them.
None.
Like ihjel said, you can only create units that you can preplace in Staredit. So no special units or spirtes, only the basic units and buildings.
What you could try is use a Darkswarm/Disruption Web casting system at the start of your map. Instead of removing the swarm/web you can store them somewhere else until you need them. However I am pretty sure that their is no way to extend the lifespan of a swarm/web, so you'll run out of supply quickly.
On a side note, there is an AI's called 'Cast Disruption Web'. I have no idea wether it works on a regular basis, but it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work all the time, you can always have 10 Corsairs with that AI to increase the odds.

The disruption web AI is for corsairs - corsairs only! There's nothing similar for defilers.
Have ranged units attack an ally of the defiler in a seperate area and heal this unit at all times and give the defiler 100% energy.
Then you'll have a swarms all the time.
Problem is that you might get a swarm which lasts only a few seconds. If you need it to last at least nearly as long as normal then make some kind of buffer system.
Make 10-20 locations + the swarm cast area. Whenever a swarm is in the cast area move a swarm from buffer 9 to 10, from 8 to 9, from 7 to 8, etc. and from swarm cast area to buffer 1.
That makes sure the 1st buffer slot has always the freshest swarm.

Oops, typo
Nude's method will work. You don't necessarily have to make 10-20 locations if the swarms aren't a critical gameplay thing though.
None.
One problem I see: Dark Swarms cannot be moved
Disruption web can, however. Also, if you want it to last forever, just preplace it, and it will stick around, but it doesn't give the protection effect unless it's for player 12.

lol yeah.
Can you give webs/swarms to P12 for the protective effect and then back to another player to prevent it from disappearing?
And when you give it to P12 again, would the timer be reset?
I really have no idea, and I don't feel like testing it
You'd have to try it out to find out.

For Scanner Sweep you can use the "command" condition. (Bring does not work.) They can also be removed. I doubt they can be created, though I haven't tested that. You also cannot move a location to a scanner sweep. (Yeah, it would kick ass though)

You can remove scanner sweep!?!?!? I thought it was only detect using command! Are they owned by the player that cast them, and if you remove them do they not get vision where they would have?
None.
They must be removed using "Remove Unit", not "Remove Units at Location". (Scanner Sweeps are never "at" a location, not even Anywhere!) You will get the vision for a short time. Bring will not detect them. Not even Bring-Anywhere. Chuiu and I have used this for a spell casting system in our maps before, which is why I know.
Preplaced Dweb/Swarm stay forever in game, in game casted ones will always be removed, you can see owner has nothing to do here, only thing that, P12 is the one, which effect game.
