I think mac's are useless. I use Windows, and have no troubles on it. I can switch to Linux, but it'll probably be about the same but with less worldwide support. I'll stick with windows.

I remember using a Mac. And the results were terrible.

I like my Windows, the way it is. All though Linux is equally, just as good.

Anyways for me I dual boot windows and linux and use a acer aspire 9410 laptop.
Also Linux is not a full OS is it just a kernal.No big deal it is a common mistake .

I think he means, by Linux, one of the distributions of Linux, which are, in fact, full OS's. Mandriva, Suse, Ubuntu, etc. He just didn't want to list 'em all and put them all under 'Linux'. And I've never had a reason to get Windows support, and I can ask online, just as I can with Linux, if I ever do.

Put OpenBSD on the list, though. It's somewhat popular. Unix-based, I think.

I use both windows and mac. (I've used Linux in the past, but I've always encountered problems between the hardware I was using and the Linux software, making my experience using the operating system less than favorable.) I prefer the mac, everything is just cleaner on them.

A PC with Windows or Linux or OSx86.

Macs are useless, but I could care less if you use Mac OS X. I don't like it.

No Linux is not a full Os sorry its just a kernal that is compiled however whoever wants it.

I have a PC and I use Windows XP. I have used all three operating systems rather frequently.

Granted, I know how to do every single one of the things, but those are simple tasks that are overly complicated. The already complicated tasks are even moreso complicated. I feel crippled when using Linux. That's not because it's bad, it's just I don't have any foundation in it. But Linux is definitely not as user friendly as Windows/Mac OS X. It's come a long way though.

If I could, I would use Mac OS X. I am definitely interested in a MBP, perhaps when college comes around, who knows. OS X is a lot more innovative and a better experience to use than Vista/XP, IMO.

IMO, Windows doesn't really have any benefits as far as the OS itself goes. It's ugly, resource whoring, relatively unstable (for a number of reasons, which aren't all the operating systems fault entirely) less secure, bulky, etc. Some of these may be subjective, but whatever. In the end, it has 3rd party software support, and that's really what I want. But that doesn't make the OS itself any better.


But yeah, this thread is still destined to fail because for the small population of people who are even aware what an operating system is on the site, there are tons of fanboys and a bunch of people who would relentlessly knock a product without ever using it thoroughly. Their loss, I guess.

I haven't seen any real advantage that Mac has over Linux or Windows, so.. yeah. Not convinced.

Reread and you are saying ubuntu,debain,and others are full oses when they are not...

What are the benefits of a Linux anyways? From what I can tell they are just the same as Windows but the GUI is much more flexible.

They're OS's with flexible UI's.. each one generally comes prepackaged with Gnome or something else. Is there really conflict there? I can send you windows without explorer.exe, which won't show you a proper GUI. Still windows, right?

Heh, if you want to be even more technical about it, the OS is usually called GNU/Linux, with GNU being an OS using the Linux kernel.

As far as BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution), it isn't just OpenBSD - there are 3 main derivatives of BSD and OpenBSD is just one of them. Those are FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD; then there are various distributions and derivatives based on those 3. BSD is another Unix-based OS that is older than the Linux kernel and even older than GNU (BSD was started in 1977). It was originally a fork of Unix itself. One reason for part of its popularity is the fact that because of the license, it is possible to have a proprietary OS based on BSD or one of its derivatives, either in part or in whole. Some examples: Mac OS X is partly based on FreeBSD and Windows also uses some BSD code. Linux also uses some BSD code, since the license of the current BSD derivatives is compatible with being sub-licensed under the GNU GPL.

I use a Dell Inspiron 1520 Vista Ultimate (but i rather buy an apple and load it with windows instead of mac os)

Soon we will all use online operating systems. This is, of course, after the internet gets faster.
Then taking your computer with you is simply logging on to any available one.
