Dear everyone:
I just moved into a new area. I went with one provider, Qwest, who turned out to suck horribly, only offered DSL for my area and only offered their lowest package of 256Kbps. Of course, it's only "up to", and I only got "up to" 30Kbps. What a joke. Found out about another provider, CableONE, and just had it installed 10 minutes ago. Opted for the 8Mbps package. Hells yeah I like my interwebs fast! Anywho, downloading a video from Gametrailers to benchmark my speed, but I'm only getting 268Kbps. A far cry from my 8Mbps. Naturally, this could be for any number of reasons, such as Gametrailer's site being the bottleneck, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site to test your speed at, or something of that nature.
www.speedtest.netA perfect site if theres a server near you. I used to have a server in my same country but they seem to have taken it down

Ah, awesome site! I got 3339Kbps. Better than 268Kbps, but still less than half of what I ought to be getting. Of course, it was just installed, so it may be a day or so before everything is at peak, depending whether CableONE has to do anything more on their end. Not sure how that works, though when Qwest was first installed I got a laughable 10Kbps, then the following day I miraculously had 30Kbps (
whoo).
EDIT: Okay, I had tested with the recommended server that was closest, but testing with San Francisco yielded 5287Kbps.
Remember, their server may not be as fast as your ISP.
None.
Relatively ancient and inactive
I had like 4400 kbps downloading but 1600 uploading.

Dear Anonymous:
Of course, that's why I asked for a site like what Nintendo Confed gave, to help see where the bottleneck is. I just want to ensure I've got all 8Mbps behind me.
Dear Centreri:
Yeah, uploading is usually always slower on cable and ADSL connections. I only had 550Kbsp, but that's good considering my plan is supposed to only offer 500Kbps upstream.
I used to have around 640 kbps upstream or a little higher than that (768 kbps officially, without overhead being taken into account), but my ISP downgraded it to about two-thirds of that when they upgraded everyone's downstream speed at some point.
None.
i usually get a lot higher than that though.
this too shall pass
