I think there are many maps now in staredit but I think people find themselves disappointed half the times @ the quality of the maps & aren't really eager to try these new maps any more - waste of their time.
The rating system was supposed to help with this, but if nobody are playing the maps to begin then nobody can rate --> no ratings mean people dont know what's what.
I think that staredit should have a new admin-type status for dedicated & skilled & unbiased & virtuous members assigned into this cleanup team that tests & tries out maps to see if they're good or not.
If they're not, delete them, If they're good, hastily put a vague recommendation - Good, Moderate, and Ok (Poor maps are not allowed) & then move on to the next map.
Then people will know that if they wanna search for a quality map, then staredit network is the way to go. How about it?

i plan on cleaning up crappy files and shitty tags soon... revisiting the dldb hopefully tomorrow / next day
rating will be a major factor on dldb removal. the dldb will have a script to show poorly rated files for mod review.

We used to have DLDB keepers that pre-approved every file (I had the job virtually alone for several months), but the sheer strain of trying to keep up with the roughly 80 files submitted per week often induces laziness.
Well I think the main problem was that 90% of the maps submitted should have been considered crimes against humanity.
There should really be a minimum decorum on maps that are submitted. Like having titles that make sense, not having excesses in units or large spaces vacant on a map. Not accepting any bounds unless they show real improvement on the genre, same with cat and mouse-type maps and snipers, ect. I hated accepting mediocre maps that were all the same.
It would be neat to have some sort of global participation, like mapping votes where if a map receives too many votes of poor quality, than it is removed from the database. Of course you'd have to make some sort of enforcement so that a bot (or stupid person) doesn't simply go rating everything bad, like having only members who have been active on the forums for a long period of time vote or something. (All land owning white males...)

Let me show you how to hump without making love.
