Just a glitch in the Matrix

THE STORY

Very far from Antioch, west of the archaic sea of Kna-Tari, lies the province of Khandia. Homeland of the Furinax Tribe, Khandia is renowned for its industrious people, mainly builders, artisans and weaponsmiths who revel in their progressive crafts, their greatest feats being the power suits wielded by Zealots and the Dragoon exoskeleton. Scientific research, logic and skepticism characterize the lifestyle of the Furinax, and their sheer ingenuity has become proverbial. Suddenly, an ominous sound penetrates the placid waves of Kna-Tari: the Zerg, fierce creatures intent on conquering Aiur, attack in force. Led by Cerebrate Gorn, just revived after his temporary death in Scion, the Zerg proceed to lay waste to the whole province. Now Khandia is on the brink of total annihilation, and it's up to you to restore hope in your people. Acting as the local Executor, and fully aware of the fact that receiving any help from other provinces will be nearly impossible, you strive to rally the remaining warriors and plan a counter offensive against the evil that changed the winds and wronged the tides. You will need to be extremely careful, because not only the revenant Gorn is one of the highest ranking Cerebrates in the Swarm's ranks, but he also has yet to reveal his deadliest servant.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This campaign was designed to be played with the original StarCraft patched to version 1.04 or later (it will not work with the retail version). While it is technically possible to play these maps in Brood War mode, this is not advised, because the extra units and technologies would severely alter the gameplay, making some of the missions too easy. Compatibility with StarCraft Remastered is not an issue, but some terrain blends will not look as good as they do in the original game.

I hope you'll enjoy these missions. As always, thanks in advance for any comment!

''Go to hell'' is basic. ''I hope your favorite StarCraft character gets voiced by Pr0nogo'' is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying.

UPDATE - 12 Nov 2020

Mission 1: Fixed the name of the special Reaver, incorrectly displayed as Warbringer.

Mission 5: Removed a superfluous line of dialogue.

If you have Brood War, please play "Champions of Khandia" in StarCraft mode. Also, this campaign has not been tested under StarCraft Remastered.
Literally everyone has Brood War, so this is a silly requirement. You should disable all Brood War units in each map rather than forcing the player to play on vanilla.

In that case, I think that I would be forced to save the maps in .scx format, which would be a nonsense since this is a StarCraft campaign, not a Brood War one. Silly or not, that is the requirement, so get over it mate.

Roy's Secret Service

You can save the map as a Hybrid SCM after editing broodwar tech, so if people play in Brood War game mode, the game reads the bw tech as disabled, and otherwise can still be played in Original game mode.

I don't know why you're against saving maps as .scx. It doesn't make any difference for the actual gameplay. You're only hurting your campaign by adding pointless restrictions that will deter people from playing it.

Thank you very much DarkenedFantasies, that's useful information. I may decide to do it in the future, but it seems to be low priority. It would surely take some time, because at that point I would update also the maps of Tales of Halcyon, Voices of the Swarm and Enslavers Special Edition... We will see.

I have my good reasons, my friend. I can only play the original StarCraft on my obsolete retrogaming PC, I can play Brood War only on my laptop, and I hate to play on the laptop, so as long as I'll be in this situation I'll be making campaigns for the original StarCraft.

Actually I don't see how this may hurt the campaign: as you said, everyone has Brood War, which does include the original game, so they only need to play in StarCraft mode. Besides, that's what they would do to play Episodes I, II and III, so this seems very logic and intuitive to me.

He's not forcing the player to do anything. It's entirly up to the people who download his maps to decide on how they want to enjoy them(just like all products should be disigned).

None.

To be honest, I did not understand your idea.
The Remastered version only updates the picture, not the mechanics of the game, i.e. the triggers will not change.

Yes, I know that the engine is the same, but it's my due to inform the user about it. My concern is mostly for some new terrain blends, I don't know if they will still look as good in Remastered.

You reminded me of Insurrection and Retribution. These campaigns were created for SC: Original, but the player can play through Brood War.

They will look as the same, because you do not use Remastered doodads.
For example, you can remember how DK played "Voices of the Swarm" through Remastered.
Has something changed there? I don't think so.

There were only some marginal differences, mainly in the names of the factions/broods/tribes in the aftermath screen: some of them were strangely missing, others were incorrectly named (for example the yellow Leviathan Brood was displayed as Baelrog, while the white Alpha Squadron was labeled Omega, and so on). That's all I could grasp from watching his playthrough.

The Curious

The errors in tribe/brood/squadron names (they were shifted 1 position up) were a bug I had noticed once. It appeared to have been fixed since (maybe a year ago).

Why don't the force names on the score screen get displayed in totally random cases is another question, and one for which I had filed a report on the Blizzard forums once (maybe a couple years ago). It's still there.

Trial and error... mostly error.

Yay! New campaign! New campaign! :D :D :D

I've been waiting for this for months, and I'm so glad it's finally released. Those screenies are extremely promising, and I like the story description a lot. Expect a review as soon as I get to play it. ^^

One thing is for sure though, Andrea certainly has a lot of patience: whenever he publishes a new campaign, people immediately start to argue about trifles such as the editor he used, or the format in which he saved his maps, or other nonsense, and the campaign itself invariably takes the back seat. Get your sh*t together guys, this is not how you're supposed to give feedback and encourage a map maker - this is how you piss people off.

Hmm, does it matter if all triggers work correctly?

The Curious

From the readme:
"Mission 4: The total amount of units lost by all computer players is erroneously displayed as 0 in the achievements screen. This is due to how the trigger for the kills-to-cash system works. If anyone of you knows how to solve this issue without having to resort to hypertriggers then please contact me."

Every time a death is subtracted to add to kill-to-cash system, increment another, unrelated score for the same value. Then, in the end of the mission, use it to replenish the death counter for the computer players. It's not ideal but should count for something (you may also need dedicated triggers to convert kills of every enemy player's units to cash so that you can keep track of which enemy player's units died, but I guess it'd be fairly straightforward to copy them and alter each set as necessary).

Neat terrain effects and blending in the campaign BTW. Haven't played it yet - but I will - only looked at the maps a bit.

Trial and error... mostly error.
