Mr.Pete-Tong

Hi i wanted to ask if anyone knows what difference it makes what file you save your map in.

Theres Starcraft remastered hybrid map(.scm)
Theres Starcraft Broodwar map(.scx)
Theres Starcraft remastered Broodwar map(.scx)
Theres Raw Starcraft remastered hybrid map(.chk)
Theres Raw Starcraft Broodwar map(.chk)
Theres Raw Starcraft remastered Broodwar map(chk)

Does the units act different depending on what files you save file into, like does heroes use abilities if saved in remaster broodwar?
Does the map limits change depending on which file you save into?
Does the Unit (units owned by a computer player) ai scripts change?
Does the graphic in the game change?
Does the triggers change?
Does the string limit change?
Does it have any effect on use multithreading, like using specific save file decrease the lag by some computers using cpus for graphic?

use this if you want more strings.

use this if you want your map to still work on older versions of Brood War (pre-remaster) but not have any features of remaster (string limit increase, ramps, etc.)

Never use the others.

Mr.Pete-Tong

ive been using remaster hybrid (.scm). im not sure what the difference is on broodwar map (.scx) and hybrid map(.scm) is. My hybird map(.scm) have been working ok for a long time but now i need more strings and that seems not possible in hybrid map. thats why im asking if you know if theres other differncies on these save files?

My understanding is .scm = Starcraft, .scx = Starcraft Brood War.

Mr.Pete-Tong

yeah but scm = starcraft seems to me to allow all the same units as broodwar does cause its a hybrid, well i used scm with all units awaliable. but string limits is a problem for scm it seems to me.

Nope, I saved a maps as StarCraft BroodWar Map scx\scm. This is for playing through 1.16 and Remastered. If I will save as StarCraft Remastered BroodWar Map, then I will not open a map through 1.16.

Yes. For example, EUD triggers will not work in 1.16 if the author made it in Remastered.
Ultraviolet made a map "Mercenaries" with EUD triggers for Remastered, for example.

No.

Does the graphic in the game change?
If you will not make a mode then graphic will be the same as the current version.

Does the triggers change?
No.

Does the string limit change?
I can't answer.

I don't know, sorry.

I hope I could help you.

You're welcome :)

Btw, you can load my map - http://www.staredit.net/topic/18023/
And you can open it in 1.16 and Remastered.
So you will understand that the difference is only in the graphic.

Roy's Secret Service

Starcraft Broodwar Map (.scx) is usually marginally larger in file size (less than 1 KB) than an identical Starcraft Map (.scm). An identical Starcraft Hybrid Map (.scm) is noticeably larger (about 1.5 KB) by containing the sections from both formats. I never checked how the Remastered map formats differ from their 1.16.1 counterparts.

CHK (raw scenario) maps are the actual map files found inside the SCM/SCX files, which are MPQ archives holding the compressed CHK and WAVs. The blizzard campaign missions are found as CHK files in starcraft.mpq and broodwar.mpq.

Naturally, Hybrid SCM allows the map to be played on both Vanilla and Broodwar modes, but they also make it possible to disable Broodwar tech without restricting the map to Broodwar mode for editing that data if one would so desire.

The most notable difference I think is that the Vanilla SCM format doesn't have the COLR section, which restricts editing player colors to Broodwar mode. Hybrid SCM contains the COLR section, but it's ignored in Vanilla mode.
