Hello. My name is Christien Chapman. I've been playing starcraft since 2018. My dad found an old version of the game on his old pc from 2009. That was the last time he played it. I looked at Staredit and picked up on campaign making and audio mixing. Although my campaign wasn't good, I took the experience I gained and made a new mode that I plan to release soon. I made a game where you have to survive in a map and are able to build units and other things to aide in your survival. I've been working on the game for several months now (due to Coronavirus) my project is almost finished and supports up to two players and 11 maps. Each map has different qualities and features as well as difficulty. Besides starcraft, I used to host minigames on minecraft wii u, I had a fairly successful map making career and over 100 players. Sadly though they moved on. Since I needed something to do I moved toward music. So yeah, I'm a low-level starcraft player/scripter, musician, and former host. I'm glad to be here and maybe I can entertain some of you for a few hours with my new game : ). Hope you guys can check out my projects in the future. I will let you know when I'm ready to release!

Welcome! Always good to have some new blood, our community is quite the old one, with many members having been here 15+ years. I see you say you're using Staredit for mapmaking. Staredit is a great introductory tool, but I'd highly recommend checking out Scmdraft 2 as you'll find an amazing increase in functionality while having the same general layout, so it's pretty easy to pick up and understand. Blizzard actually stopped officially supporting Staredit and now recommends all users use Scmdraft 2, although you'll still see some others around like yourself who like using the original Staredit (Andrea Rosa comes to mind). There are a ton of resources available here for different mapping techniques which you may find valuable. The wiki located here and here (first link is hosted on Staredit.net, the second link will load substantially faster) are great starting places. The UMS Mapmaking Assistance forum is also an excellent resource. The stickies have a ton of good info and any questions that aren't already found in the forums can generally be easily answered by the members around here. Once you're finished with your project you can post it in the Map Showcase forum. If you want to give everyone a hint of what's to come the Map Production forum is a good place to go. Be sure to read the stickies on topic guidelines before posting a new one. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing anything you create

Hahaha I'm already ahead of you. Making maps for my game was paifull with staredit but when I saw scmdraft 2 had a text work flow I swinched to using both old and text work flow to make development a day not one week. I've been using it for about a month and a half and let me tell you I really don't get why staredit was so restrichive.

Well sonny, let me tell you, back in my day, we didn't even have bytes of data we just had bits, and you kids with your fancy giga hertz processors and graphics cards, hah! You'd be lucky to have more than 80 spaces in a line back when I started computers, and I had to walk two miles uphill both ways in the snow just to change the HP on a Marine! You lucky sons a guns don't know how good you have it.

hey there and welcome here this forums offers great help in your map making. id too recommend scmdraft 2 is really good compared staredit. another thing to aid your learning is to open other maps and check out their triggers mean while searching the forums here. That will make your learning more easy at least thats how i learned alot. My map Desert Strike Classic2020 v3.4 is unlocked and have triggers of game modes, unit creations without unplaceable bug, timer systems, income systems, lots of effect triggers and powerups.
