Right now for plugins it does string passed from plugin -> UTF8/UTF16 for display in scmdraft using the current system codepage. And the string is saved as passed without any conversions on map save. (So exactly what the ANSI/MB build used to do implicitly)

Working on a revamp of the profile settings UI.

I'm looking for suggestions on the UI (So layout / order, contents).

Still planned:
Toggles for default / extended limits
Reowrking game data panel to support SC 1.16 / SC:R more easily

Not sure about breaking it up into smaller sections, but maybe it'd make the onboarding process less intimidating for new users. It definitely looks cleaner than the current version. Restoring features to default would be global, or only for that window?

Good decision to split it up into tabs.

Rename General into Map Handling and move "Undo levels" and "Maximize on startup" to Global Settings.
Make Game Data the default tab, because that's the tab newcomers will probably need to deal with when they have problems.
Why the Move Up/Down buttons? Does load order matter?

Restore to defaults is global.

Global settings are profile independent - undo levels and maximize currently isn't.

Plan is to open it with game data active if it has problems loading settings. But it doesn't need to be the first tab.

Load order matters - data in patch mpq needs to overrule the base MPQs.

Add 'profile name' feature somewhere so we can finally change names :DDD
A way to clone profiles in-editor would also be nice, especially if it also copied settings like disabling sound and enabling unit stacking.

Cloning should be fairly easy to implement. Renaming is a bit annoying due to the way they are stored - but maybe it is possible without to much work.

The profile contains basically every setting you access from the menu, just not the active visual overlay settings. But the dialog only displays a small subset of those options.

Technicalities aside it would still make more sense.
Any other setting besides these 2 actually affect your map or its presentation.
Rename Global settings to General, if that helps your conscience to move the items. :P

Alright, being the default in case of error is fine.

I don't want to have "global settings", which are settings that are applied regardless of which profile you selected, and profile specific settings which change between profiles in the same tab.

Now moving auto maximize to global is something we can talk about. But undo levels may be more appropriate to be profile specific.

From your point of view maybe. But not from the user's, because frankly, nobody uses profiles (Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel :P). And even if they do, what's the use case of changing the amount of undos between profiles? You're solely talking out of the code's perspective, so you make it right for exactly 1 person on the planet.

Seeing the splash screen I was wondering who or what is camelot systems? And aren't there any better renders of a sc scene? it looks horribly outdated, not worthy of the progress scmd made.

Perhaps - background is one image SC stuff is superimposed on it - but that is what I have and its not something I worry about.

samods? I think I downloaded a campaign from them like 15 years ago? But can't be sure anymore.

This reworks the game data tab significantly, and hopefully improves game version autodetection as well (based on SC.exe version info).

Let me know if you get weird error messages or if it does not work.

Options are 1.16, 1.22, custom settings, and autodetect.


Will double check the huge set of changes tommarow as well.



E: Question - should autodetect SC path also always autodetect version as well, and mod users be forced to set a custom path? I'm leaning towards doing this to streamline the UI for the common usage case.
