I made this for pr0nogo, but figured it would be useful if anyone else out there needs to add a lot of tiles to their tilesets.

The maximum number of minitiles in SC is 32768, and a lot of tilesets are already close to that limit. So all this plugin does is replace references to minitiles with a DWORD instead of a WORD in order to raise that cap. And in order to be detectable by other SC tools, the vx4 files are instead saved as vx4ex (though the original .vx4 files are never used).

If anyone tries this, let me know if you encounter any errors. This is a fairly simple and straightforward plugin, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Here - I've converted all vx4 files to vx4ex using FaRTy's exe.

Thanks for the plugin and the tool! Should be nice and easy to get this stuff implemented in PyTILE and SCMDraft now.

PyTILE now supports expanded VX4 files. When you open a tileset it will first look for .vx4ex, then fallback to .vx4 if its not found. If you are editing a tileset and reach the minitile limit, it will ask if you want to expand the vx4.

Once I'm done with Inconsummate (and before I start my next big project), I'll be taking requests for graphics editing including tileset stuff, though I pretty much exclusively kitbash and recolor. Hopefully it's enough to get more people interested in tileset modding though. There's a lot of potential for thematic shifts and visual storytelling once you include custom tilesets.
