We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

One day scmdraft will respect the windows font scaling settings. Its quite annoying to implement though.
I don't think this is what he means or needs tbh. More like the option to customize the font and size of different elements, without having to use a global Windows setting that changes everything else as well.

Cartography Artisan

On the scaling topic... should provide a 10% zoom mode for those full-map pastes

What do you mean by different degree of FOG? You can only store 'is preexplored' or 'is not preexplored' and that can be toggled globally.

Location properties window also already have buttons for invert X / Y / X+Y

What do you mean by always visible buttons for layers? You mean like the 'always show fog of war' and 'always show locations' menu options? Not sure what you are getting at.
All I want to do is make it easier for myself to read test in SCMDraft without changeing anything beyond the editor. Triggerwork strains my eyes quickly, so I want the text to be bigger. I did give the Windows magnifier a shot, but it's confusing to use when clicking through all the different windows, tabs, and menus.

Regarding the FOW, what you say is not exactly true. You can draw different patterns, by decolouring only every second tile or so, depending on desired effect. In the game, this will make the map appear uncovered, but not as visible as full on explored, again, the degrees vary. There's an article about this on the wiki.

Would you believe if I told you that I have searched for the option to keep locations always visible? Yeah. I would not believe myself either :P. I think that I tried to find it somewhere else, and when I didn't, I had convinced myself that it's not available at all. Though, my version is up to date, and I can't see these buttons you mentioned that invert location coords. There are six tickboxes for ground and air detection, and four text fields for the coordinates. The only button in that window is "OK".

The text size doesn't strain my eyes. I think you may need glasses m8

Math + Physics + StarCraft = Zoan

...and on the topic of scaling out, when we scroll the screen across the map while it is zoomed out very far it should scroll faster.

Not yet. But I will, soon, unless something changes :P. Maybe we have different resolutions, it could also be monitors? Another much rarer possibility is that we could be two different humans with different sets of eyeballs? I don't know how I feel about that last one though... Nah, that couldn't be it.

May 5 2017, 3:24 pm Suicidal Insanity Post #47

I see you !

Its a combination of screen size + resolution + distance from monitor + personal preferences.

I won't be implementing scaling of text size in the dialogs, but I will make sure that the dialogs scale with windows DPI settings, so that the text size in scmdraft would match notepad / paint / etc (Which isn't the case in all subwindows right now). That won't update elements which use the SC font to render however, so if you mean only one of those locations let me know.

Could it also be possible to adjust the opacity/transparency of the locations? Sometimes I want them visible and unlocked without my whole screen turning blue.

I suggest to keep a reference to the location ID in the location list in the tree. For instance display location entry as "Location Name <ID N>" or something.

Just want to say that it's cool how units keep their original names in the tree and how location names got their unprinted characters cut off.

Now as I think of it, maybe an option to switch between display styles could be useful: 1) display only original names for units and locations, 2) display both the custom and the default name like "Custom Name <Default Name>", 3) display only custom names.

Another one: make search in the strings transparent to color codes. For example if I have a string "<02>M<10>arine" it will appear under the search for "Marine". This and case sensitivity might be an option (or might not).

Unit properties window is modal. Add button "Where?" to jump view on the current selection center. A button "Restore selection" to restore the saved selection as current selection will be useful too.

A few things that stuck out to me upon coming back to SCMD2 after not using it for a few years:
-Please allow zooming in for the tile palette window.
-It'd be neat to have a way to display the tile palette showing, not the actual appearance of each tile, but its pixel color on the minimap.
-Please allow mirroring for non-isom terrain types (and, ideally, things other than terrain), even if it's just a simple form that doesn't play 100% nicely with the isom all the time.

May 15 2017, 12:13 pm Suicidal Insanity Post #51

I see you !

zooming is already in the old release, just resize the window until it snaps to large size.

figuring out a good UI for minimap preview is difficult, since it depends on map size etc.

Current version has mirroring for all terrain types except subtile updating mode.

I don't know if there's a better thread for this, but on the current public version of SCMD, a common trigger crash occurs when changing ownership of a trigger. When selecting a trigger owned by player 1 and unchecking the box next to 'player 1' for ownership, the program crashes. I don't know if there are other factors that create this issue.

Doesn't seem to work for me? I can shrink the tileset view by making the window smaller, but even when I try to make the window as large as possible, I can't seem to get it to zoom larger than 100%, even when I have the main view zoomed in to 400%.

figuring out a good UI for minimap preview is difficult, since it depends on map size etc.

Even if it just makes a best guess based on the size of the map that's open, it'd still be useful. Something that only has the accuracy of, say, SC Picture Mapper could still help a lot for building UI elements that display on the minimap.

Current version has mirroring for all terrain types except subtile updating mode.

Is there an option somewhere that I have to use to enable this? I'm running what I think is the latest version-- it has the new unit properties dialogue, and all of the popup windows when renaming locations-- but only isom will mirror for me.

- Add option to show location name (unsure if this is already available)
- Selecting stacked locations doesn't seem to work as well as StarEdit/other editors (selecting the wrong location, creating a new one on accident, etc)
- Terrain overlay to show the minimap color in the pallet

I see you !

@foxwolf: 100% zoom is the max. I thought you meant going from 50% to 100%.
Also the mirroring is only in the unreleased version

#Pr0nogo: I can't reproduce that. Does it crash immediately or when you click Ok / switch the active tab?

@Pauper: Show location names? Where do you mean?

Hey SI,

When I place a location it doesn't show a name. For example, if I place a new location it would say "Location 80" in StarEdit on the blue location. But in SCMDraft it doesn't show any name, even if I type one in manually.

Ok, they should show up. Do you have the 'clip location names' option set in the menu?

I've recorded an example here.

May 15 2017, 9:15 pm Suicidal Insanity Post #59

I see you !

I don't know if its map specific, or if I fixed that so long ago I don't remember, or its OS specific, but I can't reproduce it at all.

I will have to check when I get home tonight. I don't have it installed at work anymore. I recall having this problem when I used the application 10 years ago.. haha. It is most likely that setting.
