the clear answer to sjdubs cryin about dubs is to step up the wubwubwubs

Enclave looked like something I might have investigated sometime, good to know amazing things might await

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

The PC port seems to have been deliberately designed to create as many bugs as possible, though sadly most of them are just smash-inducing as opposed to funny.

So basically it's an average port. Fantastic.

This ten minute section is a pretty good example.

Deadly Premonition's playlist is up, though the vids are 480p because they were pulled from twitch.

Doesn't look nearly as bad as Diablo 3 or Alice, nor as buggy, just judging by that bit.

Most bugs are graphical. If you really want bugs, click to any point in any video of Deadly Premonition and wait 10 seconds. I shit you not, a title worse than even Conan.

A new WarCraft III video is up, featuring maps 4-6 of the RoC Orc campaign.

The WarCraft III RoC production has been completed. I'll be working on a channel overhaul that should show up early next week and will bring with it a recast of Mirror's Edge. At some point during the next week or so I'll begin The Frozen Throne as well.

I intend to run wc3 at some point as well... been on my list for a long time really. I suspect I will get very angry.

As someone with very little experience with WoW and zero experience with older WarCraft titles, I was probably less impacted by the lore and more impacted by the presentation, but I feel that's pretty par for the course with blizzard games. I have however noticed that this began the trend of rigging the maps for difficulty. AI in BW tended to be incompetent and required resource tricking in order to function even close to as intended, but in War3 and beyond they reduce build times, artificially trigger intended outcomes instead of scripting them into the AI, hand out upgrades, enforce bizarre techtree restrictions (player has access to 3 units but enemies have access to full techtree... hm!), etc. If you told me blizzard was devolving their AI, starting with Brood War and ending with SC2, War3's AI would serve as practical evidence for that claim.

At any rate, I'm doing another run through Mirror's Edge for my next standard LP production and will soon begin The Frozen Throne alongside/after it. I'm surprised at my own levels of productivity lately, so I'll try and make the most of it before it dissipates.

Yeah, wc3 doesn't have an AI at all. Zalamander (one of the creators of the sole AI projects for wc3) told me a while back how basically everything necessary for the AI to succeed in basic functions was, once again, totally hardcoded. You know, the AI can't even see doodads? Like, their collision. It tries to expand to the blocked expansions in Divide and Conquer and will try to move its units into there despite being unable to, just getting stuck forever. And that's not to withstand the horrible pathing and attack logic.

Wc3 is total disaster for the genre because it vindicated all of those shitty starcraft clones that tried to turn RTS into an RPG like Spellforce. The only noteworthy RTS' to be released other than Brood War is Armies of Exigo and Conquest: Frontier Wars, but in neither case would I recommend their campaigns.

I played through all of Exigo's campaign and remember it being pretty dumb, though it didn't have a particularly personal effect on me as I didn't 'grow up' with the game in the same way as I had with Brood War.

The last RTS I remember even being made besides SC2 is that grey goo game and I don't have fond memories of even looking at it.

lol grey goo what a joke

Exigo, like so many other RTS', would have done a lot better if they just stopped trying to shoehorn heroes and rpg bullshit into a genre that will never benefit from them.

I think Warcraft 3 benefited from the hero/rpg aspects. It immersed you a lot better into the story and your current mission while being balanced well enough, so it just touched up the rts mechanics (e.g. take expansion earlier), without it becoming arpg-ish (hero mows down armies).

The alpha for wc3 was the only thing that held some degree of progress. That dota became what it is shows that wc3's design was a failure through and through, notwithstanding the balancing problems it had (or the mediocre writing). Pity no one learned from their mistakes when it came to making sc2.

How does the success of a custom map prove or disprove if the hero mechanics worked well in the rts environment?

If you can't see the relationship of wc3's competitive scene catapulting dota's success I am not going to bother explaining it to you. Maybe an easier example for you is Starcraft 2 and League/Dota 2.

I suppose what mesk is referring to is that a custom game that didn't use RTS gameplay as its core was more successful than the RTS game it was created in, and thus this points to the core game being flawed. I don't think war3 was meant to be a pure RTS like war2 or brood war but I definitely don't enjoy it as much as either of the starcrafts.
