Let's post and discuss Korean Maps. I remember played a lot of great ones but unfortunately they are on my old hard drive. I'll try to recover them if it's possible.

Anyway I came across this one today. It's a team defense game where you have to protect your bunker. Different combinations of units can be fused to create new ones. You are constantly repairing your bunker. Played it a few times but was confused as to the exact mechanics of the game and didn't get very far. Your mineral count seems to randomly wipe. I haven't played it with a full house so maybe that might be the issue.

There's also of course Test of Survival which was one of the more popular maps. Anyone know if the original Turret Defense was Korean? The map by ghost[yoon](sic?) is extremely old and one of the first defense type maps I remember playing.

Thanks I'll check them out. In your second link one of the videos had 2x? speed. Is that still a thing or did they patch it?

TL;DR place a Scarab or Interceptor owned by Player 15 on the first unit index. You can use a Map Revealer if you want double the animation speed but don't want to increase movement speed.

I've been playing a lot of Korean maps lately. Many are trial and error if they do no incorporate intuitive game design because of the language barrier. The Fish server site has a great database of maps.

https://www.fishbattle.io/community_mapdata

The site is fairly easy to navigate, especially if you use a translator. The tab titled "유즈맵" (4th from the right) is for use map settings. To download a map click on the title and a description will pop up at the top of the page. Click on the floppy disk to view download links. The search function is at the bottom of the page and has multiple filters.

For the majority of maps you will be able to tell what kind of genre it is simply from its name. There seems to be a very large amount of EUD maps which seem interesting to check out.

Because many of the file names are in Korean you will need to change them to Roman characters. Ensure that you do not exceed the 31? character limit including the extension or the map will be unplayable.

It's probably 31 since 32 is a power of two, and -1 for the . in the filename.

Here's another site that has a massive (around 18k) size of maps. You will however need to register on the site before being able to download. This site is somewhat more organized with the map genre usually included along with the title. It however uses javascript which means that Google translate will not work. When clicking on a map there may be further information and screenshots if the uploader has added them.

Here's the entire series of Knights of the King (KotK) made by Nyx)..UELTER. I'm unsure if Cry.UELTER and UELTER are the same person(s) but I would assume so. You can see his progression as a map maker from his earlier to his later maps. The series, spanning 8 maps, focuses on knights in service of their liege.

KotK I/II are Diplo styled maps with several kings. There are also knights that serve the different kings. Knights, aside from being stronger than other units, have spells that they can use.

From KotK III onward shows a shift of gameplay from being macro-oriented PvP Diplo maps to more ARPG-esque co-op focused maps. There is only one king with the knights serving to protect him and in some versions the role of king is played by the computer.

The games are extremely fun and well made. They provide the players with a right amount of challenge and allow progression at the player's own pace to a certain extent. There are several different types of knight each with their own unique spells. More importantly for us, the games are fairly intuitive. The lack of complex mechanics or need to read Korean allow us to play the games without having to read the dialogue.

At the beginning of each game the player will be prompted to choose a knight character. From there it will bring you to a castle where you have to defend. In some versions the requirement may be both the castle and the king. The castle will be under siege and the knights must defend and eventually push back the invading armies. The ultimate goal would be to destroy all of the enemy bosses.

Spells are an integral part of the game which can be accessed through the use of the barracks. Relatively speaking, these maps require heavy spell casting and you will almost always be constantly using spells. The spell system is unified throughout the series for the most part.
  • Marine: Heavy spell
  • Firebat: Light spell
  • Ghost: Medium spell
  • Medic: Heal
The spell system makes use of combinations of any two units excluding the medic. This allows for a total of 12 different spells for only 3 hotkeys. If the knight has a transformation spell this may allow for more spells while in the transformed state.

There are also items available for purchase. The items are used automatically at certain intervals and require no interaction for the player other than the act of purchasing it. They provide buffs such as healing, temporary invincibility, increased mana regeneration, etc. I don't know what each item does but at mid-game level you should be able to afford all of them.

Upgrades are what you would expect. Because of the spells you will usually have to split your upgrades between two different trees, one for your spells and one for your hero.

Capturing towns(academies) will be your main source of income aside from kills. Towns provide money at certain timed intervals as well as halt the production of enemy units. Towns will be captured upon killing all enemy units around it. The town will fall if there are no allied units near it.

Progression through the game are triggered by either moving to locations or killing certain buildings. The events may be an enemy advance or boss fight. To ensure that you don't trigger an event that may be too strong for the players to handle it is recommended that you advance slowly throughout the map.

I'd recommend playing the later half of his maps as these are the most engaging and fun of the series. I believe that Zero is the last map after VII.

Memory King's RPG

An extremely high production value map from what I've seen. The terrain is a bit like Labyrinthos in that it's a series of corridors on a non-isometric grid. I think this RPG would be great if we would be able to translate it.

If you'd like to try it out the mineral civ is to heal. Healing is on a cool down and it doesn't cost anything. The gas civ is to interact with NPCs/quest locations.

Here are some of the features:
  • Multiple sound tracks and great atmosphere.
  • Extensive spell system.
  • Extensive item system.
  • 3 main attributes are max HP, Int, and Str.
  • Save system.

How to use spells:
  • Go to the templar archives (magic shop)
  • Read the recipe list. T1 spells is top left, T2 is top right, etc.
  • All spells require at least 1 magic crystal and token.
  • T2 spells cost 2 tokens but all tiers only require 1 crystal.
  • Move the civilians on the bottom that correspond to the recipe you're using.
  • Move your templar in the magic shop to the beacons for 10 seconds.
  • If you input the correct recipe you should receive a new spell near your gas/mineral civs.
  • If you input the wrong recipe all crafting materials will be destroyed.
  • Magic crystals are a rare drop from bosses.

Save System:
  • When you want to use the save system bring the ghost on the bottom right to the beacon.
  • You will be unable to continue the current game once you have done so.
  • Write down the numbers.

Walkthrough:

Spells are still a mystery. You probably have to combine the different items on the bottom using the recipe at the templar archives. However, even when using the correct recipe nothing happens.

All kills are individual and nothing is shared. Bosses will respawn so you will have to kill a boss multiple times to ensure that each person gets the kill.

Day/night cycles. During the night player vision is turned off. When it reaches morning you will automatically heal.

Starting Attributes:
  • Life = Max HP
  • Str = Minerals (upg armor/dmg)
  • Int = Gas (upg spell dmg)

Town:
  • Spend tokens to purchase items at the shop.
  • Probe = TP
  • Medic = Heal

Player Inventory:
  • Mineral civ = heal on cd
  • Gas civ = interact
  • Bottom right civ = music on/off
  • Top right civ = monster spawning on/off
  • Comstat area = quest items.
  • Top left area = consumable items.

Area 1:
  • Talk to the templar in the town.
  • Reach the civ near the water at the bottom.
  • Talk to the templar in the town.
  • Kerrigan should spawn and follow you around.
  • You can then enter the cave near the the civ.
  • Kill the ultralisk. Then return to town. Kerrigan should despawn and the quest will be complete.
  • Enter the cave at the top right.

Area 2:
  • Talk to the templar in the new town.
  • Go to the top right cave at the end of the level. All other caves will teleport you back to town.
  • Wait there for a while and use the gas civ when prompted.
  • Talk to the templar in the town.
  • A ghost should spawn and follow you around. It is not invincible.
  • Enter the top right cave and go to the altar with 4 pillars.
  • You should enter the new area. Go right from here and into the new town (area 3). The ghost will despawn.
  • Return to area 2 and reach the end of the level. You will be on the other side of the water from the civ from earlier.
  • Take the purse, it will spawn in your quest inventory (near comstat).
  • I'm unsure if killing the hydra boss does anything.
  • Enter area 3 again.

Area 3:
  • Monsters here will drop tier 2 items.
  • In the new town (with a temple in the middle) talk to the templar.
  • Go back to area 2 again and enter the labyrinth (to the south of the civ near the altar exit)
  • Talk to the civ near the pillars.
  • Take the middle path first to get the map in your quest inventory.
  • Take the left path to reach the Kerrigan boss.
  • After killing Kerrigan talk to the civ again.
  • Kill 15(?) dragoons.
  • You should now be able to enter the temple.
  • Talk to the civ near the carrier he will give you a new quest.
  • Enter the temple and take the left path. You will reach a crystal.
  • Return to town and talk to the civ, the quest will be complete and you will be teleported to a new area with firebats.

Here's the blog of the Team Ceres map makers. From what I can tell they pump out around 2 RPGs per month. I would like to play their maps but I can't find anywhere to download them. When I check the Daum DB the map links just go to their blog.

Maybe more recent versions that I haven't played added more things than I would guess, but there's a bit more than localization going on there.
