Actually it was a really hard race - it has been cold all through spring and then Sunday is the hottest day of the year by a long way, with no cloud cover. So many people just collapsed during the race and were being revived by medical staff. People were even being pushed over the finish line in wheelchairs.
Also, will, what was the route? I did 21k two weeks ago. Planning on doing my first marathon this year (I was supposed to do it last year but then I could not).
I have to lose some weight beforehand, though. I have put on a few pounds because of crossfit and mma and, well, eating like a pig
I felt like I hadn't trained enough. My performance was disappointing even for a first half marathon I thought.
I was on track for a 1:45 until about 17km when a combination of heat exhaustion, a blister and knee pain meant I slowed to a walk. It was hard to get started again after that - and I went through a few phases of running and then fast walking. I ended up with a 1:59:56. My 10k PB is 41:54 so I was pretty disappointed.
Cool. Little elevation, though, 5'49'' is not bad ;o
I ran this:
El Salvador's on the hill side of a country but this route was the one with the most insane elevations I've ever done. It killed me. One can only advance so much when the street you're running seems like a vertical wall
Wow that's over 100m climbs - probably in quite warm weather too? I would really struggle.
Hackney is pretty flat, but the small inclines felt worse due to the heat and poor conditioning on my part.
I was going at a pace where my heart rate is normally between 140-150 but on the day it was abnormally high - between 160-170 at the same pace. I think it was the heat exhaustion. Check out the stats below - my heart rate starts to rise above my pace around 7.5km, then I run in anaerobic conditions for almost 10km. So, respiration would have been via glycolysis rather than Krebs cycle. Then between 16-17km my glycogen stores were depleted and I "hit the wall".
Well, april's average was around 32°C. So a bit warm. It was early in the morning, though, so I dare say it was only around 25°C-28°C.
I think that running anaerobically around 10km was what screwed you up and not the poor conditioning
Also, dem0n meant that the first image you posted got broken.
One of the coolest races in here is called "urban challenge" (translation) We get to enter a military base and do cool obstacles.
Sorry, I get excited when talking about running
Also, in the first two instances of this race (it's yearly) the soldiers you see there used to randomly shoot and place fireworks so they exploded and scared us. But I think someone got a heart attack and they stopped doing it
