In response to the sudden issues people have been having with lat plugs here is a basic guide for repairing/forwarding your ports, both on your router and your computer; which seems to fix UDP issues, and additionally this often allows users to host games.

(more pictures/links pending)

Quick Guide for Techies

Step 1 - Clearing existing StarCraft entries in your computer's firewall

Step 2 - Allowing StarCraft's through your computer's firewall

Step 3 - Forwarding ports from your router to your computer

Step 4.0 - Check if your issues are resolved

If so, :wob:

If not let me know, if you had trouble with the guide please let me know where you started having issues.

I may also be able to help you over TeamViewer (remote control software, search for it on the internet, quite simple to install), but do not post your TeamViewer information publicly, pm me (or other ranked SEN members who may offer their help).

Nice guide, unfortunately I suppose you can't write a guide for every router interface.

I've got forwarding and then four subsections "Virtual Servers, Port Triggering, DMZ, UPnP. Not sure which one I'm supposed to use.

I've had issues with that plug icon as well. Not sure what caused it but now it's consistently there.

Yeah, tried virtual servers, called the service port "6112-6119" and did both TCP and UDP. Doesn't work. Still get plug.

Well it's not DMZ in any case, you can attempt port triggering but I think that's usually implemented s.t. the computer has to be the first to send a packet through that port which isn't necessarily the case with SC. I've met a few routers that don't have a nice port forward option; if so my condolences. If you have a modem you can plug your comp into, you can try that (be sure you have a firewall active on your comp, as it will be more vulnerable when directly connected to the internet); if you have only 1 device on your router you can put it in bridge mode/full-bridge mode (if available) and your device will likely get a public IP (which don't need ports forwarded, however, be sure to have a firewall active as this makes ur comp accessible from the internet); if you have multiple devices on ur router I recommend swapping it out or bridge-modeing too a linksys brand router (which in my experience always have port forwarding options & work nice with SC).

Virtual Servers is an alias for port forwarding. Note that US East is currently experiencing an issue with networking, so no one can play there.
An antivirus can be the cause for blocking the network traffic as well

None.

mm, last time this happened it was a null route attack I believe

I learned a way around it..

Once 6112 Port "Splash Table" pops up, click ok..
Once you're on the Login, Exit.
Now you're back at the gateway servers.
Click Ok.
Repeat until you dont see the 6112 Splash Table anymore.

-------------------------
1)Start at Gateway Server Selections - Click Ok
2)Click Ok for 6112 Splash Table
3)Exit Login Splash Screen
4)Repeat until that error message doesnt pop-up anymore - once it's gone, LOGIN!

(NOTE: Don't Login until you don't see the 6112 splash [Must do this once Logging out every time])

In my experience: if nothing seems to work and your network setup involves computer -> router -> modem -> Internet, try finding your external ip address using a third party service (e.g. http://www.whatismyip.com/ ) and then connecting to it in your Internet browser. This may bring you to your "modem", which might include another firewall layer.

Yeah, I will try this when I get home guys.

I've got like three effing layers here.

I've got my shitty wireless USB dongle, which connects to my router, which is connected to the modem via ethernet. For all I know there's probably port forwarding options for all three of these devices.

Okay I just tried the "try 3 times and cancel 3 times" trick and it worked. I no longer have the plug.

Just make sure you DO NOT attempt this without an active software firewall on your computer! This will make your computer directly accessible from anywhere in the Internet and thus make you vulnerable to all sorts of malware. Unprotected, it will likely just take minutes to get infected, so don't even do it just for a short test!
Even worse, if some idiot on bnet targets you, (which is far from unheard of) they could potentially take over your machine, preventing you from logging into windows, instead of just annoy you on bnet.

Those dangers still exist with an active firewall, but they are mostly reduced to the weaknesses of the firewall itself. That being said, I wouldn't trust the Windows Firewall in this scenario and would minimize the time you're exposing yourself to the net in that way.

If you disabled your Windows firewall you don't need to open ports there. (duh)
Same if you disabled (or don't have) a router firewall. You'd notice if you didn't have both. :P

To formally answer your question: Refer to the "port forwarding" part of the OP.

True, you are more vulnerable, added a warning to my post above. Though personally I've never had an issue having a public IP (with windows firewall up).

Same if you disabled (or don't have) a router firewall.

Not quite, older traffic like that from StarCraft doesn't account for NAT translating, port forwarding ensures traffic (which may not fit neatly in an active session) gets to the right device on your network.

Yup any firewall will take care of most of the danger.

What do you mean, not quite? I literally told him to follow your port forwarding (= NAT+PAT) guide.

I mean if you disabled the firewall on your router it's not the equivalent of having ports forwarded (as far as solving StarCraft issues goes) - which is how I (possibly mistakenly) read your statement.

No you're right, in the quoted part I was talking about firewall. But you omitted the part where I was talking about NAT. ;)

ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

I went home and successfully connected to battle.net on my desktop right off the bat. When I tried connecting to bnet on that same network on my laptop, I got UDP blocked, so the problem is definitely with my machine, and not my ISP. I followed the first two steps you detailed (don't have router access to this internet, so I can't forward ports, but that doesn't seem to be the problem), but I still can't connect properly. Any other ideas?

Dec 20 2015, 7:22 am sigsaucy Post #19

followed the guide and tried the keep logging in and exiting until it works trick

not working sadly

for the 3 quit 3 rejoins trick, when you get the UDP splash screen the only option you should have is to press "ok" right? this takes you to the log in screen where you press cancel and restart the process right? I see "OK" and "cancel" in the udp error screen but only ok is clickable (see attached pic)

EDIT: just realized the cancel in the attached picture is just the leftover from when it tries to connect to bnet and the windows 10 bw text issues

Are you sure you really forwarded port 6112 UDP (NOT TCP!)? Because I had the same problem recently after reinstalling and that was the only thing I needed to do (no other ports) to fix it.

Not that it makes sense, but I also had some odd behaviors (with other things) depending on my IPv6 setting in the router. It seems using IPv4 only (instead of just preferred) is the most compatible.
