[Campaign] Chronicle of the Beast

Chronicle of the Beast is a completely original fan-made campaign crafted solely by me... and the voices inside my head, if you count those....

Anyhow, the campaign, while incomplete, is very much in active development. One mission has been finished and another is well on the way to completion. I've already posted a video that showcases a then-incomplete version of the first mission and the modification that comes with. A download for the map and mod is available.

Some notable reasons that show that this campaign is not 'just another StarCraft campaign' are...
-The campaign is completely voiced.
-It is accompanied by a game-changing modification that, in the future, will affect even melee play.
-It has received positive feedback before reaching the 'alpha' stage of development.
-If you don't play it, I will amass a horde of zombie ninja warriors from Christmas time and violently [expletive deleted].

Without further ado, here is the video! (apologies in advance for the dual-letterboxing, you might have better luck viewing it with expanded resolution at the actual video page)

And here is the download link, for your pleasure... and for a zombie ninja warrior-free life. Hope you guys like MediaFire!

Let me know if you encounter any issues with the map or mod, and leave your comments! I answer all questions and reply to most sensible and intelligible comments, so don't be shy!

The title music is way too hardcore. It should be subtle, not speed metal or w/e it is. Also, a dragoon isn't a suit. The hero guy says that his dragoon is still in tact, but you can't just go into it. IIRC, dead protoss warriors are brought back in the form of a dragoon or something.

Everything's top notch, except for the game play. The player might be "liberating an area from the zerg threat", but all they're really doing is using attack-move across the map, occasionally stepping backwards in between shots. Nothing but hack and slash. You might say, "It's only the first level! The good stuff comes later!" No, start off with the good stuff. Make me want to actually get to that good stuff, by making it fun in the mean time.

"My power armour that I can't get out of ever is still intact." It's a vehicle (or vehicular object). It takes damage. If it was broken, it wouldn't be intact. As for the music... no.

I showed four-five minutes of the first mission. You aren't alone for the entire mission, and I'm not giving you a super-powered phase cannon power on the first mission because a.) his Dragoon is damaged and b.) he gets that modification later (you know, trigger based spells and all).

That is still 4 or 5 minutes too many of what is simply attack-moving across the map. But, everything else looks really good. It would be nice if you give some sort of reason why all of a sudden the Shield Batteries will now fully restore your health - I understand it is a necessary feature of the campaign. I don't mod for Starcraft 1 - but something along the lines of destroying a specific zerg structure or a crystal and then returning to a Shield Battery would fit better.

Try and give the first five minutes at least a little bit of variation. There is no point in having a super-awesome hero unit if there are no other units to compare him to. And, while this is the first mission in a campaign - and so far it seems similar to the first mission of the Protoss episode from Brood War (when you control Zeratul and you fuck up a lot of zerg). You should give the player a couple of zealots that he rescues or something, maybe one on red hp and one on yellow/green. You can then afford to trigger a better 'ambush' sequence. Because the ambush you triggered somewhere in there was a bit lame. The zealots will inevitably die - but at least then the player will understand the value of this Drakken fellow.

Why don't you make this in Starcraft 2? :P You could have warp prisms and shit.

Edit: while the voice acting is admirable and don't get me wrong I am impressed by this. I have a criticism to offer about the briefing. It isn't a briefing. Prelate Drakken curses terran scum for causing collateral damage, then his underling gets on the intercom and pretty much confirms that there has been damage. The ship has to be shut down. And before you know it, the briefing is over. And you find yourself controlling Drakken on an unnamed planet, in an unnamed sector and low and behold - there are Zerg there. I don't mean to sound harsh but this doesn't really set up your campaigns storyline or plot - or get me intrigued.

Cardinal's last part is very true. I hope you have a prologue or something. In my experiences, they are very fun to make, and they look pretty damn epic after you finish them.

While I did consider a more specialised approach to the Shield Batteries, there's just not enough space to include it in the map while not being awkward. I had to consider many different approaches to many seemingly simple map ideas. As for mundane gameplay like attack-moving, have you looked forward to the inevitable build-and-destroy missions? I have to think up so many different gameplay enhancements that make it not only playable, but replayable. When I release the second mission, you'll understand what I mean.

Darkkar*.
I probably should have mentioned this, but along with feedback from what you got from the video, I'd like feedback from the actual map. You do get additional units to compare to Drakkar, and many of them will die. It's not solely a commando mission.

That horrible game doesn't deserve the shit that comes out of my infested bowels, let alone something like this.

There is a reason for my extremely vague 'briefing' for mission one, and it is this: plain and simple, you are not supposed to know the history of Drakkar until you get to know how he acts, what his values are, and just in general have a basic understanding of his character. Not that far into the campaign, Drakkar will reminisce in some way, shape, or form about his past, before he was shackled to the husk of his Dragoon. I won't say much more than that until that mission is released.

Finally; play the mission, then give feedback that pertains to the overall experience of the mission. Don't assume that just because the video shows no allies, Drakkar never gets any allies. This goes for other issues as well, such as the whole "hack and slash" bit.

Thanks for the vague but supportive comment. Oh, and, I like that part too.

In other words, "Don't complain about the only part of the map I showed you!"

If you already knew that the first 4 minutes of gameplay is boring and terrible, DONT MAKE YOUR VIDEO OF THE FIRST 4 MINUTES OF ATTACK-MOVING ACROSS THE MAP.

That's not what I said at all, and because I wanted to include the briefing, I had to include the first four to five minutes of the map. I also don't believe that the first four minutes of gameplay is 'boring and terrible'.

I wanted to play this campaign but the MediaFire download isn't working. It's invalid and deleted.
